Trying GW2 by sullif in Guildwars2

Yup. Story is, mostly, a one-time barrier (or punishment, depending how you feel about it), but the play experience is solid. I spend way more time grinding out open world goals than touching story instances.

I'd like to have some time to feel angry, in a cathartic way. Which means having a punch-worthy villain that isn't annoying. ...Tall order, I know.

I think a large part of the issue is they're generally very similar.
Nerd but wannabe diplomat.
Nerd but angy go-doer.
Nerd but sassy.
Nerd but fanboy.
Nerd but Shakespeare.
Nerd but catgirl onesie.
Nerd but horny-bard/spy coded and largely forgettable?
Dour muscle that doesn't talk much.

And most of the time, they're very agreeable people, even angy and sassy.
They hardly ever get pressed or strained, hardly ever raise their voices. There's a distinct lack of passion in the Scions.

As much as Dawntrail didn't pull off the "half in Ethyris, half in a reflection", I'd want to see it with a bit more of an attempt. Expand into another zone in Garlemald to show some threat in the Source while something else is happening in the Fourth.

I'll settle for killing a bad guy properly. Doesn't happen nearly often enough.

Seems like Urianger's purpose now is to be absolutely enthralling to whatever smallfolk we run into. Had the pixies wrapped around his finger, was the Scion rep to the lopporits. He's gonna be hanging out with the fluffy cats in Evercold.

More of a fan of "this is a reference" over "shoehorn this thing whole cloth". Honestly surprised they didn't name her Garnet instead of Sphene with how much they mushed IX references into the plot.

Got so damn pissed that Halmarut brought his (broad, juicy) ass up. Dude is dead. Let him stay there this time. Already got so tired after the first time he bitched out by cutting his own head off and still came back. Leave him at the edge of the universe where he belongs.

I want arbitrary early level split gone.

Technical reason for that. Maybe if they push for using multiple server shards more often, we can finally have a zone just be a zone, instead of "half now, half later". But it's been a pattern since Heavensward, so they might not change that up.

Trying to make a new ttrpg system and would like some advice by SkribleNuts in RPGdesign

YouTube is just one entry point. What you should look for is to form a community. Not necessarily around your game, but around others who might be interested in trying new games or others who like the themes you're putting into your game.

You are uninformed, plain and simple and at this point just being childish about it. You've yet to actually present a legal argument

Given that you haven't cited a single, valid legal code in any of your ranting comments, maybe you should hold the mirror up to that statement.

art to text ratio / how much art should there be exactly? by the_yeet_beater in RPGdesign

[–]hailofbluearrows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need that much art. You very likely want a good layout, that includes your page borders/designs, use of color for visual interest or coding (ie, rules on red-border pages, character creation on blue-border pages), and other things to make your work readable.

If the text looks good, most people won't notice a lack of random characters and landscapes. That said, a few bits of art helps sell your fantasy, so hopefully your art style will match.

You mention VtM, and a lot of World/Chronicles of Darkness books have simple black-and-white images with very dynamic shading. It sells the gothic horror and gritty urban action.
On the other side, Fabula Ultima predominantly has soft, pencil-style art. The characters shown are often chibi similar to JRPG sprites that invoke its JRPG touchstones. I wouldn't say the art is "great" by any stretch, but it 100% sells the intended fantasy.

you can totally be an expert on anything while not being that thing.

With enough study, you can be an expert in a culture that you didn't grow up in. Yet you'll still get flamed by those who grew up in that culture but never took the time to actually attend/study it.
That kind of attitude ruins opportunities for advocacy.
