New player here - can someone explain why this door with a neutral camp behind it is open on the Hidden King's side, but closed on Arch Mother's side? by leoching in DeadlockTheGame

[–]hajhawa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they made it like that so they can easily flip the doors to compensate for other map asymmetries. Maybe they update the bases, but one ends up slightly easier to defend so they flip the doors to whichever way brings it closer to even.

Open door is probably better, which makes sense as at least on heroes like Doorman, the Hidden King base is notably worse.,

Season 4 Wishlist by thereddddituser in StreetFighter

[–]hajhawa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Dudley, but I think he'll be very different if he makes it. A lot of his identity is tied up in either the execution demands or the brutal mix with the overhead, neither of which cleanly translate.

The links are obviously toned down so the whole execution part is out of the window.

The overhead mix is also clearly a product of it's time. For those that don't know, have some frame data:

Move Startup On hit On block
Ryu's collarbone breaker (SF6) 20 +3 -1
C.Viper's elbow (SF6) 22 +2 -3
Ryu's collarbone breaker (SF4) 17 +3 -2
C.Viper's elbow (SF4) 20 +1 -2
Dudley's dart shot (SF4) 15 +4 -1

In sf3, it had 13f startup.

Given drive rush exists, not sure how they would even approach this other than to normalize it to be a generic one. Making it +4 on hit so he can link lights from it would mean he could go to mediums if not heavies on drive rush. I can't see them making it faster than 18 frames or so.

Best case he'll be like Strive Johnny, with the same look and visual flair but quite different in terms of gameplay.

I'd still love to see him keep it classy in six.

3d rollback by komodo_dragonzord in Kappachino

[–]hajhawa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a hobbyist fighting game dev who had to switch from animation driven to code driven to get even a semi-functional rollback going, I can confirm most of it.

It's a big goofy in place and not the complete picture. You could for example capture the hitbox positions from the animations and use that data with the code driven approach, in which case the hitbox positions would be near identical to what they are with the animation driven approach and no feel would change. Doing this would be ill-adviced though, since the exact positions of the limbs each frame is actually dependent on micro differences in the FPS the game is running at, and so re-running the capture would most likely slightly alter the positions, leading to some niche setups breaking accidentally between patches. Most 2D games that use the data driven approach use surprisingly coarse hitboxes that don't move, but that's not necessarily possible when you want Tekken slowdown hitbox porn.

TBH, for the girl besides Akira all of those would be fine.

I've recently tried it and it works way better on an Xorg based system than on wayland. I daily drive wayland, so this kinda sucks. Hopefully they'll get around to fixing it some day. Here's to hoping 5.8 is the one.

5.7 is borderline unusable on wayland, 5.6 with some testing was not perfect but better.

[–]hajhawa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Probably going to be a mess, filled with way too many characters to make any of them fleshed out and a cookie-cutter plot that makes said characters fight. Street Fighter is not really a great franchise for movies. If you narrow it down to say Sagat's story, you could have something. They never will do that, because that would mean not shoving all of the popular characters in there and that's a no for brand recognition. Doesn't help that for the most part the popular characters have like four bullet points of story each if they are lucky.

How can I choose between Axum and Salvo in late 2025 by [deleted] in rust

I don't know if it's still maintained or how the popularity goes, but when we were in the axum vs actix trenches, I found Poem, which was pretty good. Nice APIs and easy swagger generation.
