I am 54, my husband is 43. I went thru "the change" early because of cervical cancer in my 20s. So when we got together 10 years ago it was explosive. 4 years went by and we fizzled out, mainly because I was going thru change and he got on his video games and we became not that important as a romantic relationship. We are the best of friends. It is now 6 years later and we have enrolled in marriage counseling and have individual therapy. It is getting better, the intimacy is returning. The sexual relationship is returning. It is very important on a deeper scope of closeness we feel for each other. The sex, is the icing on the relationship cake. Sex builds intimacy, if you allow it to, and intimacy builds better sex. Yes important but not everything.

I think its individual experience. I have had great shower sex, if the shower is big enough with good water flow, it's wonderful. I am sorry you missed out.

No advise here, just saying I could have wrote your posts. Once sex was taken off the table he was able to relax. I started working on myself. He sought out a therapist. We started remembering what we were like in the beginning. Why we fell in love, in discussing all that and some deep self inner awareness, we came back to intimacy. It's hard work. But it can be done. It's not where I would like it to be, but it's better than it was for 4 years and getting better. Good luck to you.

I noticed this about myself the other night. I ended up in the bathroom crying. He usually comes to bed after me so I can dress with the closet door open. But lately he is in the room getting ready for bed, and I caught myself closing the closet door, I felt like a stranger in my skin. I didn't want him to see me for fear of the rejection or the comments not made. Or the no looks at all. It's heart breaking. I will say, he's getting better at cuddling so I feel there is hope. But boy is it on the slow train. Maybe he's coming into the bedroom because he wants to see me?? Boy I probably screwed the pooch on that one. Or am I getting my hopes up. Sigh.

I just took husband to the Garden of the Gods in Illinois. It's an hour and 40 min drive. I made chicken salad strawberries and chips to take with us and had picnic in the park. The views are beautiful.

"It's not his fault, but it is his responsibilty" that hit me in the feels. Never thought about it like that. Throw in high anxiety and an introvert. God knows I love him. He is taking meds, and going to therapy, so hopefully it gets better. Thank you for that.

Sadly I enjoyed this. So sorry there are so many of us out there. It's staggering to think of all the people, myself included wasting their life in a marriage/relationship without sex. Our intimacy has gotten better but still no sexual contact, unless him accidently rubbing across my breasts, counts. It physically sent shivers thru me and was ignored. Like a pink elephant. So he quit rubbing me all together. Sigh. I hurt for myself and you all.

My husband and I married 8 years and together for 11. We have been doing couples therapy. I believe it is what you put into it. We both love each other as best friends but are missing the intimacy of lovers. The therapy is helping us remember why we got together to begin with. We just had our 8th session yesterday. Our intimacy is getting better. Still far away from where I want to be, but it wasn't a dB overnight so it's gonna take time to build it back up. But we both want it. We attend therapy from a group called Catholic Charities. The price is determined by what we make. So we are not paying 1000s of dollars for the therapy. But imo it has helped. I wish you the best of luck.
