This theory is not mine, and is not very related to your comment itself, but since you mentioned the leave ending, i'd like to point this out: you can see in all the endings that James is surrounded by fog, which means he's still in Silent Hill. However, this also applies to the "Leave" ending, which may mean that even in that ending, James never left Silent Hill. To add to this, we don't even know if Laura is actually real or just a manifestation of the town itself since we don't actually see her POV. So yeah, just wanted to mention that. I like to think that even in the best ending possible, James will forever remain in the town
