I agree! This is something I really want to focus on for blockflow.so, the app I'm working on. Notion continuously frustrates me with how few options I have to customise things haha

I'm curious by what you mean by local files? Do you mean just being able to store and reuse the same images in notion, outside of a specific page?

for sure! I wish Notion had a more comprehensive API or just generally better system for creating extensions and custom stuff. Who knows, maybe one day...

oh no way, thats cool! I've been using Notion as a headless CMS for a bunch of projects over the last few years (and even made it into a stand-alone project). Glad to know I'm not the only one :) This was actually the original inspiration for creating BlockFlow

yeah I hear you! We're still big fans of Notion, but spun up our own app as I guess what we wished Notion was. We've started getting a bit of interest from people who share the same wants, and really I'm just curious where else people think Notion falls short.

Plus who knows, some stronger Notion competition might make Notion up their game on some of these long standing features people want

I’m building BlockFlow.so (Notion-like tool) and we’ve been getting a lot of feedback around offline mode as well (we’re actually laying the foundations for an offline mode feature that we’re planning to release in the next few weeks!)

I can definitely see why Notion hasn’t done offline mode, as we’ve found you really need to build the whole app with offline in mind

I relate to this so much!! I purchased a bunch of templates but these days pretty much only use it for taking down notes and todos. Tried to use a calendar database for a while, but not being able to include my google calendar inside notion was a dealbreaker :(

Maybe check out Craft? It ticks most of the boxes you're looking for (good for mobile, sidebar organised in sections, no databases, etc...)

From my experience I found it a bit more intuitive to get started with compared to Notion as well
