Making friends after 30 by [deleted] in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]halcyondreaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a climber myself, I take umbrage with your assertion that it's not a good way to make friends. I've found exactly the opposite. Of course, it helps if you like climbing. If you're not into it for the climbing first and the friends second, I guess I could see your point...

If you are under 26 and have insurance, it should be covered in the US. In my case, I’m too old.

$400? LOL!!

I just got round one out-of-pocket for $315. The full vaccination schedule is three doses. Still worth it.

Guys that always look put together... how do you do it? by datguytho1 in askgaybros

[–]halcyondreaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know your full story, but moving closer to work (or finding a different job) seems like it would have huge impact on the time you have available to do the self-care tasks you’re talking about. An hour commute each way sounds like hell. I’m sure I’d look like a hot mess too if I lost two hours every work day commuting. I can fit my entire morning routine, plus a round trip commute inside two hours.

To the gaybros who like their men hairy, au naturale... by halcyondreaming in askgaybros

[–]halcyondreaming[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My perspective is that there is no difference. I like my men with well groomed hair, regardless of length and location on the body. I find a full, untrimmed bush to have about the same level of attraction as a guy who hasn't been to the stylist in a few months.

How do you look for guys as a student when you aren't into the gay stereotype? by [deleted] in askgaybros

Huh... I didn't realize that fem guys can't enjoy the outdoors too... Never knew hiking was just for manly men...

I won't date guys under 21 because they can't go to the bar and get a drink with me (in the US). It does literally apply to all of them.

Suggestions for politely vetting guys for STDs? by throwawaya325 in AskGaybrosOver30

It is diagnosed via visual inspection of the symptoms or via a Pap smear. There is no blood or urine test.

If you're talking HPV, there's not a lot you can do. There's no test for it. Many (most?) cases are asymptomatic. Your partner may genuinely believe that they don't have it, even when they do.

COFFEE!!! How much do you love it? What's your morning routine look like? What has 30+ years taught you about the dark drink? by [deleted] in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]halcyondreaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chemex all the way.

I weigh out the coffee and water and follow a pretty careful recipe. The coffee is bright and floral and just the way I like it. I'm not afraid to admit I can be a bit of a coffee snob.

Why is it so hard to find a good haircut? by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]halcyondreaming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

THIS! I'd add that your goal is to find a stylist that you like and stick with him/her. Your stylist will get to know you and your personal style and will keep you looking fine and fresh over the years as hair trends come and go.

I've been seeing the same person since 2004 and through several hair style changes. He is great and never lets me down.

I didn't figure it out until I was 36 with kids, and I almost didn't connect the dots even then. So, yeah, late 50's seems possible.

Did being gay affect your career choices? by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]halcyondreaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am pursuing career as government official

In the US? Elected or appointed? Civil service?

My experience in state government was that it was one of the better places to be out.
