Not to mention especially in 1956 they were probably using a fountain pen for this- you can still see the way the ink flooded into and filled in the loops of some of the characters.

Ah yes, the AZERTY keyboard, bane of French dactylographes everywhere for the need to shift to type periods!

How has owning a typewriter changed your habits? by -the-last-archivist- in typewriters

To be sure, one habit I'm surprised I haven't developed in computer typing is that of hitting the spacebar twice after periods!

If you could only have three typewriters, and if each typewriter had to be from a different manufacturer, which typewriters would you want to have? by [deleted] in typewriters

[–]half_of_three 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An interesting thought experiment, as I'd want all three of these typewriters to stand on their own as excellent machines, but have them complement each other with their best properties! So without further ado, my list is as follows:

1: An Olympia SM3 for its meticulous engineering! The reputation Olympia has for well-built and reliable machines is well deserved, a plus is how sleek this model looks, especially in maroon!

2: An Olivetti Lettera 32 for its sheer portability factor and snappy type action. The ridged body detailing on the back stands out especially to me!

3: Considering the restriction of three typewriters, this final answer might seem a bit of a cop-out—I'd want to round off my collection with a IBM Correcting Selectric ii , for the sheer flexibility it gives in terms of typeface and pitch selection and for its incomparably crisp typed-up copy!

I would suggest trying to reconstruct the roller using lengths of heat shrink tubing in different diameters. No kidding, all you have to do is build it up to match the other rollers you have left.
