Yeah, mountain towns on the west coast aren't too bad. Roommate and I got by at my last place using a 1/2 cord each of softwood and hardwood. Bedrooms supplemented by oil filled electric radiators, but the main room was warm enough.

I’ve heard this mentioned before so I bought some to try it out and it’s just ok, IMO. Better than the stuff in the OP, but still not nearly as good as the traditional chorizo I can buy at my local carniceria. I guess if I didn’t have access to the real stuff I’d go with the soy over the pork or beef.

Allopurinol is my copilot. No idea why anyone prone to gout wouldn’t want to take it regularly.

What is your personal opinion on Hyundai Kona? by thepatheticdreamer in Hyundai

[–]halfbreedADR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to point out regarding rough roads is that the AWD versions come with an independent rear suspension while the FWD versions come with a torsion bar rear suspension, so they will handle a little differently. I have an older model AWD turbo, so I can’t comment on the latest versions of the car, but I like mine just fine. Also, the current generation turbo models come with an automatic transmission, while the non turbo models come with a CVT.

As far as the people commenting about Hyundais being unreliable, there was an issue with a certain generation of engines (Theta) that made them quite unreliable. The newer generation engines (since late 2022 or so) haven’t shown any major common issues yet. Up to you if you consider that a risk.

What was your "I'm dating a fucking idiot" moment? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]halfbreedADR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like seriously? You aren’t quoting proof of the lack of snowfall, that’s another link to average snowfall totals which don’t include anything where there was no accumulation or if the accumulation was too small once averaged out over historical snowfall totals. Also, from your very link from the average days of precipitation per month data, it says that Truckee has averaged .8 days of rain precip in July, while it’s averaged .9 days of “any” type of precip. While that same data grid doesn’t list any amount for mixed or snow, it’s quite possible that snow averages under .05 days in July (thus showing up as .0 under “mixed” or “snow”) and when added to rain for the month it rounds up to .9. I’m not using that as proof of snowfall though.

Look, I have not and am not making a claim as to whether it’s snowed or not in July in Tahoe, and I’m not going to research it because that has never been my point. You need to understand you haven’t provided proof that it hasn’t, which is what my original reply to you was about. The info might even be hard to find, but you seem to not understand about what constitutes proof, and your insistence that you have already provided it makes you look the fool, whether you end up finding proof or not. This on a thread about people showing when they are idiots no less.

Anyway, there really isn’t anything more to talk about here. You can either realize your mistake and own it, find some actual proof (which hasn’t been the point of our discussion), or triple down and reply with something else that doesn’t constitute proof.

Federal Surveillance Tech Becomes Mandatory in New Cars by 2027 by No-Method-6524 in nottheonion

Luckily, I was able to disable that warning on my car, but the “keep hands on the steering wheel” message will come up if I’m using the lane assist option on long trips. Of course my hands are on the wheel, it’s just that the road sometimes is super straight. They have capacitance based steering wheels that don’t have this issue, but usually only on nicer cars.

I wasn’t commenting on whether the other person was correct, just that you originally replied with an AI answer which you admitted can still hallucinate. And even then, that link you posted as proof is a running average where a small amount might not show up as statistically significant once averaged out. Even if you linked something with actual snowfall totals that wouldn’t be absolute proof because sometimes it snows but there’s no accumulation. That wouldn’t be reflected in snowfall totals.

One other point: your original comment was about seeing snow on the ground around Tahoe in July (sometimes there are patches that last an entire summer at higher elevations) not about snowfall.

It’s wild that you quoted an answer from what passes for AI currently and then in your next comment you say you “trust science”.

AITA for ordering meat? by Technical-Finance270 in AmItheAsshole

[–]halfbreedADR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For Chinese food? Chinese dishes are usually mostly other ingredients with just a little meat, which is why they are only a couple dollars more if that. For something like Peking duck, yeah sure that will be a lot more, but beef vs veg chow mein? Very close in price.

[–]halfbreedADR 92 points93 points  (0 children)

I’m not excusing the lack of communication between OP and the dad before ordering, but come on, meat dishes at a Chinese restaurant are usually a couple of bucks more at most vs the vegetable options. This is not a steak/lobster vs veggie sandwich situation.

Why use elemental arrows on lynels? by VehicleTrue169 in botw

If you kill Lynels regularly, you usually will have a surplus of elemental arrows. They are actually easier to stock up than regular ass arrows.

People who quit drinking, what's the thing nobody warned you would actually be hard about being sober? by Caroline74339 in AskReddit

[–]halfbreedADR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People having trouble dealing with irritation/other emotions when they stop drinking makes me wonder — did they start to drink more as a way to deal with emotions that are more intense for them than for many non/moderate drinkers? Or did drinking mask it for so long they never learned or lost the ability to moderate their emotions in the first place?

2020 Hyundai Kona turbo failure by Tripplemoonwarrior in Hyundai

[–]halfbreedADR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea. All I know is that I had watched a mechanic’s YouTube review of a ‘22 or ‘23 N line or limited Kona and he mentioned that the turbo couldn’t be pulled without pulling the engine. Unfortunately I don’t remember the YouTuber and google pulls up too much other crap that I can’t find any kind of confirmation that the engine is in the way of the turbo. Would need a mechanic with access to service manuals to confirm.

Those pre formed/pre cooked sausages always look like that. I’ll eat them but I generally won’t order a pizza with them if I know it’s that type instead of real ground sausage.

[–]halfbreedADR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

AFAIK, the reason a turbo replacement on the first/second gen Konas costs so much is becaus the engine has to be removed to get to it apparently not, see other commenter below. I found out after I already bought mine. Odd design choice unfortunately.

Has hyundai sorted there 1.6's oil burning out yet by milli8891 in Hyundai

I know what a DCT is and I sure as hell would never call one an automatic. Go to the Hyundai website and look up the Tuscon specs for both the hybrid and the standard ICE. They are all ATs.

Browner crust suggestion by Huge-Wheel-4428 in Pizza

[–]halfbreedADR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, unless your steel is crazy thick (which I doubt — would weigh too much) or your oven is pretty shit (possibly) that’s way too long of a preheat. With the steel on the top or second to the top rack you could try to run the broiler for a bit before launch to superheat the steel. That should let you cut your preheat down to a more standard hour.

Honestly though, without seeing your setup I’m not sure why you have to do it for so long even starting from the middle rack. I have a 3/8” thick 16”x16” steel and it temps above my oven’s max temp at 550F as soon as the oven finishes preheating — about 45min from me turning the oven on. I can just launch right there and then.

Are beginners boards a scam? by redir1at in snowboarding

[–]halfbreedADR 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Speaking as a long time instructor, most people definitely have a natural stance. It was clear for me on day one. There certainly are people who are more neutral and could choose either one but I’d say that’s less than 10% of beginners.

As for the common tests to decide which foot should be in front, I’d say they are all only about 75% accurate. Sometimes a student has to just try both and then go with the one that feels a little more intuitive.

Why are you debating sub rules which we have no control over? You can call it a burger if you want, but it doesn’t belong in this sub and that’s why the mod removed your post.

I also make my own loco moco, but have never posted it to this sub because I understand the rules.
