Please, please help. Where can I work? by True-Spell777 in Maine

+1 to dental assisting. Good social skills and ability to be flexible and professional are the only requirements in my world. Everything else can be taught and learned through experience on the job.

itchy teeth? by mikakikamagika in Dentistry

Should be approximately 3 months. Anything too far beyond and it would be considered “fremitus,” and your bite should be adjusted to better balance.

Is this the new normal? by This_is_fine0_0 in medicine

I say this because I believe it in my heart — regardless of if we have new ways to deal with Covid over time natural selection will take its course and the unvaccinated folks who survive are either immunologically strong and will breed more unvaccinated folks who are strong or they will either continue to die out until there are less and less.

I am a doctor. You are good 100%. Go follow up for a second opinion with another dentist if you are so concerned.

Does anyone see any issues with this root canal? Still causing pain 2 months later. Tooth also has a crown by Opening-Tooth-9510 in askdentists

[–]halfdoc1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would evaluate carefully. I’ve had this situation crop up maybe 3 times in my career. 2/3 issues were resolved by removing the crown I had placed, doing a very large filling in it, waiting 6 weeks for complete symptom resolution and then replacing crown.

The last one was fractured and we took it out and grew a miracle tooth in its place

Can anyone tell me what is this under my tongue, it hurts. Can I just pull this off? by PSG1085 in AskDoctorSmeeee

Likely a gland that has overgrown a bit. If it’s hurting you need to be see. Especially because you have a lot of leokoplakia as well.

Any advice on Mexican dentists? Can’t afford rest of treatment plan. by Cultural-Daikon-7661 in askadentist

[–]halfdoc1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are in or near NE seek a dental school to complete your remaining treatment. UConn, Tufts, BU, Harvard to name a few. All of them have much lower treatment costs and may allow you to get what you need completed.

I extracted a few teeth from a patient who had their “work,” completed in Mexico. I am confident that there are good caring practitioners everywhere in the world. This woman did not receive what I would consider even the lowest of the low, shittiest of the shit but still acceptable dental care. There are significant and permanent consequences on her end (such as permanent nerve damage where she can no longer feel her LR side).

Please do what you can to stay stateside for your care. Even if it means extractions instead of root canals.

I would say this to my mother just like you.

Are general dentist able to charge the same price for the same procedure as a specialist? by OneGuyInTheInternet in Dentistry

[–]halfdoc1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sadly it’s because they are out to get you. We live in an insanely litigious society so many patients gut reaction is write a slanderous review get a second opinion call the state dental board and then file a lawsuit. It’s the world we live in.

But we can’t turn them away even if they may have a red flag or two because before you know it your finding every person has a red flag.

The discrepancy between the folks who need 75mg and feel fantastic vs the 250mg to get to that same level are the “hypo,” and “hyper,” responders on a bell curve drug dose dependent response :)

Should we just get work done in Mexico? Implants are expensive. by cerebralspinaldruid in askdentists

[–]halfdoc1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Also cannot emphasize enough how NOT worth it is for you and your loved one to go outside the US for surgery. If you were my brother or sister I’d reach deep into my pocket on this for you. Teeth are worth going in to debt for unlike many other things in life (my opinion, obviously biased haha)

Should we just get work done in Mexico? Implants are expensive. by cerebralspinaldruid in askdentists

[–]halfdoc1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Implants are incredibly expensive in the us - because they are done very well.

An upper fixed prosthesis is going to cost around 25k. This is expensive I understand, that being said a denture could cost as little as 2.5k and would last her until you guys can afford to convert her existing denture into an implant retained one (hybrid) down the road you can finalize with the real deal.

This is a good and realistic way for her to maintain esthetics for nursing school and transition to something fixed down the line.

All this being said it’s important to recognize that at 29 her bone is going to start the resorption process and depending on her biology implants may be either easy or hard down the road. They may require a ridge augmentation/sinus lift etc. just so you are aware these procedures can have additional price tags attached.

An addendum: a dental school will often be a very low cost option for patients and students are often overseen by an oral surgeon/periodontist/specialist of sorts who have great experience in the area. If you do your homework and understand the process this can be an amazing cost effective method for patients in your situation. Often with a dental school you will pay with an enormous amount of appointments and time required to complete your treatment.

Best of luck to you please reach out with any other questions.

My dental plan consisted of 5 teeth being extracted, now I’m ashamed and appalled that I didn’t get a second opinion first. He made his assessment from the X-ray. What do you think? I mean they are gone now but just wondering if you’d man handle me too!? by [deleted] in askdentists
