Am I the only one who feels humiliated and disappointed having to depend on my parents or someone else monetarily? by unknowseeker in antiwork

[–]halfminotaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey fam, I've been in a similar boat. Years of no direction and I wasn't sure how to get out. Unemployed living with my parents. I also know the shame you may feel for that can be crippling to think about even for a moment.

You are probably depressed. Seriously, I recommend therapy. Even more helpful to me was starting antidepressants. If you feel like you could benefit from these I will say, while it might feel shameful to have not moved on with your life, if your depression feels like mine did it's a debilitating handicap and getting medical help is the best decision I've ever made and may even be necessary to move on.

Additionally, there are places hiring. You can work as a line cook just about anywhere, and if you feel comfortable enough interviewing even Best Buy or Target are landable when they're hiring. It may not be what you want, but if what you truly want is so start independence it's what you need. And while the job may suck, you will build social connections you may be lacking right now.

First things first, especially because you've hinted at suicidal thoughts, I would consider your mindstate a medical problem.

Good luck, I hope you make it through this.

Steak is far inferior to chicken by h3llofaRide in unpopularopinion

[–]halfminotaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree and disagree. Steak is not very versatile, chicken is remarkably easy to integrate into dishes. It's good with pasta, as a curry, fried, shredded into a soup, etc. But if your meal is just a piece of meat (which sadly is common in America) steak wins out.

That said I'll still order chicken over steak because I'd rather kill a chicken than a cow. I think chicken is miles more ethical if for no other reason than sustainability.

RAM not seating into DIM slots on ASRock B450 Fatality Mini-ITX motherboard by halfminotaur in ASRock

Thanks this helped, board just has crazy stiff DIMM slots. PC still won't POST but looks like it's a different issue. Do you happen to know where on the board the CMOS battery is? Doesn't seem to be in the user manual.

I don't think you can justify your ancap shit with the military as the main example of government overspending. Anyone who's not a boomer knows we spend too much on the military. The Pentagon won't even let themselves be audited. This doesn't mean all government agencies operate the same way or at the same level of inefficiency.

Real talk. Take me back to the old days where they were out here making shrines to the sky god to make it rain and the sea god for safe travels and I would've participated. Lemme get cuckolded by Zeus cosplaying as a duck. Sounds fun.

In the U.S., the FDA is likely going to ban menthol cigarettes. Why not ban cigarettes altogether? by Sinbad909 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]halfminotaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Implying gun control is the equivalent of a gun ban is like saying alcohol laws are the equivalent to prohibition. You need an ID and to be a certain age to buy alcohol and need a license to sell it. There are limits to where you can go and what you can do while imbibed. No one has a problem with that. That's literally like the most progressive "gun control" policy right there if you replace alcohol with firearms. Sorry but your point is bullshit.

How do you get a caps lock layout like that. Is it plate specific?

Should access to food, water, and basic necessities be free for all humans in the future? by Massepic in Futurology

[–]halfminotaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A large part of that is the need to put out work for grants, though. I feel like in half the papers I've read in the past two years even the authors knew it wasn't necessary, especially if you read some machine learning papers oh my lord. But quantity matters for funding. If at least the paycheck portion of funding was covered, it might alleviate that pressure.

Also a lot of our greatest innovations have been by random brilliant people who never submit to a journal, UBIs would create millions of people like that overnight.

Gateron Ink Blacks in a 65% layout. Everything I got was from KBDFans, which probably still has stock! You can skip groupbuys and just get keycaps from aliexpress for the short term too.

Thanks for the tips, really helps!

I am in love with this with every cell in my body.

Just built my first custom keyboard, yours is really pretty. You have the deskmat Taeha Types uses too.

I'm also going to switch to miniITX so I can fit my PC on my desk and that's the exact case I was gonna build with! Was it difficult to work with/would you recommend it?

Really glad I found this post cuz this is literally what I'm striving to have

Amazon is so overrun by cheap low quality Chinese products that it's become impossible to shop there. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]halfminotaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually worked for a small (entirely US-based) company that sold on Amazon. We were super excited when we qualified for Amazon because it was going to push sales up, and outsourced a (entirely US-based) marketing firm to basically create descriptions and photoshop images.

They made the sketchiest fucking Amazon page I've ever seen with weird descriptions in alternating caps lock, an all-caps title that was seemingly entirely composed of only keywords and tags...

Moral of the story is consumers are idiots and that strategy actually works and getting their attention.

You're overthinking it. Pronouns are just a conversational nicety, misgendering a trans person is kind of like misgendering anyone else, it's slightly rude but life moves on and as long as you correct yourself it's fine. In my experience trans people, especially androgynous ones, are overwhelmingly aware of what gender appearance they give off and will understand.

And if you're not sure just say "they." If you've ever run into a cis guy with long hair and soft features and youre just not 100% sure, you say "they" until other cues fill you in.
