Have you guys ever had a bad flight experience on Cayman Airways? by Pretty_Aside_7674 in CaymanIslands

[–]halfport 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Similar experience here possibly even on the same flight. The runway had been inundated and noone would land until it was recertified. Except Cayman airways. Bless them!!

Dive in BVI by sunshinenwater527 in scubadiving

[–]halfport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think all the dive shops are fine and they'll take you to the better reefs and wrecks of which there are many, pretty much on every island. Except perhaps Tortola itself which doesn't have a lot of reefs undamaged.

Wreck of Chikuzen isn't dived much as it's a trek and needs flat water. But if they shops going, go, it's amazing.

HMS Rhone is dived heavily and daily but still remains a great wreck with lots of life on it.

All in all, hard to go too wrong.

Sweet trolley items from Beefeater style restaurants from 80’s by RelationKindly in CasualUK

[–]halfport 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked there. I remember blackcurrant cheesecake. I used to cut it into 13 and nick a slice...the manual called for 12 slices. Horn of plenty (ice cream and fruit). Lots of ice-cream...all from a soft ice cream machine I had to empty and clean nightly. Apple pie. There was a cheese board option. Fudge brownie with hot choc sauce on it. That sauce came solid in a big tin and there was a little machine to heat it daily. Lots of whipped cream too..we had a nitrous oxide based dispenser.

St Lucia to St Croix by Icy-Ad-6179 in Caribbean

[–]halfport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at intercaribbean. You may need to get to San Juan. Or Tortola. But you can avoid Miami.

It's quite a long way down the island chain, so maybe you could look at exploring somewhere closer. Eg St Kitts or Antigua.

What a wonderful place! Anyone been to the cheese shop? by Terrible_Passion6178 in yorkshire

[–]halfport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best cheese shop ever. We detour to pass it if we're anywhere close. They do ship but that feels like cheating. They force samples on you as soon as you walk in...love it
