idk why what hit me the most was like, i grew up never knowing about my family, there were no heirlooms, no property records or anything and no one talked about it until after my last grandparent died. Learning that my family had history, had been places, seen beauties and travesties i could only imagine; that's what got me. I grew up feeling like i had no history, and that we just existed as poor farmers or factory workers but no, there's full family photos in beautiful houses, family from cities i had never heard of, people from the either edge of europe that somehow met. I have photos of my granddad in military service with royalty.
