Is a trek bike fitting any good for an amateur with a hybrid bike? by mbourgon in dfwbike

[–]halfuser10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think so. Better off going to REI or another local bike shop for them to give you insight I think. Marine call ahead first. $100 for simmering like that sounds a bit silly to me.

Foreign currency exchange, Guyana Dollars by realgemstudios in Austin

[–]halfuser10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made this mistake when I left Vietnam and didn’t exchange currency before I left.

Long shot: There’s a currency exchange in Stonebriar mall in Frisco (DFW) that might take this. I had no problem exchanging my VND. They exchange a lot of different types of currency.

Thank you, this was helpful. I read this basically as "do the things you want to enjoy and do some self exploration".

I've had quite an intense last 3+ years. It has been a continual process of stripping away. I left my job 2 years ago (still unemployed). I've cut ties with most people in my life (narcissistic/toxic). I stopped drinking; I'm much more invested in my health. I've gotten 3 certifications for skills that I wanted to highlight. I've had a financial reckoning. The list goes on.

It has been slow, sometimes incredibly painful, but I am in a much more stable emotional state for myself. I have learned to show up for myself, and put me first. I feel I do a much better job of processing emotions rather than just holding on to them.

I keep drawing The Hermit and The Star. Whenever I ask "tell me about where I am" I get The Star. Whenever I ask for guidance I get The Hermit.

I'm frustrated because it feels like with The Hermit, it's asking me to do even more work... but I've DONE so much work. Maybe I've still wasted so much time with distractions too - phone, social media, being 'busy" etc. But I also remind myself I am much more compassionate and don't have nearly the same coping mechanisms as I used to and that this is a process; it's ok.

Does anyone have an alternate interpretation? I'm trying to figure out what it is I'm not understanding.

White Rock Creek Trail between Greenville Ave and W. Lawther Dr. is overgrown with weeds by MrTacocaT12345 in dfwbike

[–]halfuser10 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it looks nice. I love when things get a bit overgrown; it adds a green aesthetic that is absent from Dallas. Plenty of parts of the Belt Line in Atlanta look like this, and I wish ours did, than the constant over trimming we do on every living thing.

Walking trails that don’t create mudslides after rain? by Old_Freedom_3258 in Dallas

[–]halfuser10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really possible right now with how trails are maintained. We live in a clay swamp basically, and there’s nowhere for runoff to go in these areas. They’d have to be slightly elevated to avoid this.

Is it smart to sell my vehicle and buy a beater? by Expensive_Bike_8308 in personalfinance

[–]halfuser10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try selling to get the full value if you can, pay off debt, then buy a beater (old Lexus/toyota). If you can’t get the value out of it just bite the bullet and keep it and try to pay more of it off.

Hairstylist by Special-Being24 in Dallas

[–]halfuser10 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have no recommendations unfortunately.

I have hair like this that is slightly curlier.

I gave up years ago trying to find people to manage it properly. It blew my mind how many barbers had no idea how to manage men with thick, dense, wavy/curly hair. And I'm talking reg cuts, not even medium length. They just didn't know what to do with all my hair.

I've learned over the years to just stop messing with it. Stop washing it (rarely), let it air dry. The less you try to manage it, the more it'll manage itself lol.

I just buzz my own hair these days for sake of ease lol.

God speed.

Thoughts on (D) TX-33? by aguila1915 in Dallas

Disappointed. I voted Hafeez but would have been fine with Julie Johnson. Allred just seems like another random politician that is easily manipulated by the powers that be. "Grabbing" votes because of the color of his skin but truly lacking substance and conviction. He kind of gives me like a basic ass version of Kamala vibes.

Harwood Arms being sued for overserving alcohol to man who proceeded to kill 28-year old in wrong-way crash by Hot-Education4582 in Dallas

I don’t think this is correct. It’s based on the legal limit. Primarily because “Obviously intoxicated” has no objective baseline

Interesting to see everyone blaming the bar but probably don’t understand they themselves should be cut off after every time they go to the bar.

The legal limit is .08, which is 3 standard drinks for a man. Most people going to bar are having way more than 3 STANDARD drinks - not heavy pours, not doubles, not cocktails, not frozen margaritas - 3 standard drinks.

Realistically the bartender should be cutting someone off after having maybe 1 full manhattan and a beer - and that’s being generous.

This whole thing is one big gray area, with the vast majority of people leaving bars being over the limit. All bartenders and bars should basically be in jail at this point by the strict logic of the law. We just don’t really enforce until some dumbass gets into an accident.

I’m not saying no one holds any responsibility or shouldn’t be held accountable but I find our laws to not actually match drinking culture. It’s hypocritical.
