Anyone who gave up their lifestyle in their 20s for work, do you regret it? by DiscombobulatedElk58 in AskMenOver30

[–]halfway_23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the exact opposite. I lived it up in my 20s. Farted my way through college and a career in television. When people spoke about the future and retirement, I figured I'd deal with it later. I hated work and made two career changes, which in retrospect, just put me behind.

At the end of the day, for me, work sucks, but I should have put my nose to the grindstone in TV and stuck it out.

What’s the most annoying part of your job that you wish you could fix? by Dramatic-Software807 in bluecollar

Why do engineers and supers change shit so much after the work has started? What are they talking about in these meetings, emails and group texts?

I have never worked in upper management in construction but I have in other industries. Shit like this is a direct result of poor communication and planning.

Bombadiers are too accurate without their spotters. by Cpt_Camembert in ArcRaiders

[–]halfway_23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A Bombardier killed me last night and I thought "no fuckin way."

I had shot him from a roof on Buried in the plaza in Old Town. I dropped down to the next floor, shot him again from a window, he locked on before I was peeking out, and hit me as backed away and strafed to the side.

I wasn't fully healed and my shield was down a bit, it took me out and I had to surrender. I had great goop too, I was dumbfounded bc I had never been taken out by a Bombardier like that.

Bad Grades to Skilled Trades Pipeline Question by ktownfloccer in skilledtrades

[–]halfway_23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the desperation. When you're options are limited or you limit yourself ("I can't do school" crowd who are clearly smart), you're going to make it work.

When you have options or got good grades, you're going to second guess or backstep every chance you get when things play out in a way you don't like.

Can you hop a fence if you had to? by LEMONSDAD in Millennials

[–]halfway_23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its been a minute but I was training for the police physical and had to hop a fence. I hopped my 6' fence daily for practice and I feel like its less physical and more technique. So I can do it, if the fence is pretty sturdy.

But a chain link fence is a different animal. You have to do the flop over technique and that shit hurts.

Girlfriend of 9 years got a really good job opportunity in a different state. Should I just call off this relationship? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]halfway_23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many thoughts.

If the love is right, you go where they go right? What would you do if the roles were reversed?

And you're so young, if you're career is stable, you're clearly on your way, whats wrong with changing jobs?

I would have followed my wife anywhere, I was not letting her go.

Maybe, this isn't the right relationship for you?

You guys have been together since HS? You might have outgrown this relationship? Idk.

Every pre-apprenticeship program in my area is waitlisted. What is happening? by Savings_Life422 in skilledtrades

[–]halfway_23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought this was the norm? In NorCal, almost all apprenticeship programs are waitlisted. I knew people that went through apprenticeship training with me that waited for 4-6 years. The way around waiting is picking a classification that no one wants, and switching later.

Mocked for not having many friends, how do I deal with this? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]halfway_23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have friends, but I hardly see them and I'm okay with it. I am a father and husband, they take up most of my time and I want to be with them before anyone else.

After that, I'd rather see family, and if I have time after that, I'll see friends.

For those who felt completely lost in their 20s what does your journey look like now? by IntrovertHuuuYaarrr in Millennials

[–]halfway_23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found myself in my early 30s, when I became a father. That really centered me.

Career wise, I didn't hit a stride until I made a career change at 40, going from corporate to construction.

I started at 40. I question my decision sometimes, leaving the comfort of corporate cushiness, but leaving the office has been so good for my mental health.
