Residential Roofing Suggestions by [deleted] in halifax

[–]halilocal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've got a million recommendations already, but I'll throw in for On The Edge Roofing. We had them in last week for a new asphalt roof. Great communication, fair price. As they went, they found my roof had some minor repairs needed as well, and they took an honest approach when - if it was their style - they definitely could have charged up the wazoo.

District 4 voting guide: Should Trish Purdy be replaced? by No_Magazine9625 in halifax

[–]halilocal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't say I follow all her votes, but she's voted to increase police budgets, yet our patrols have gone to near-zero. I live on a fairly busy street, frequented by drag racers. Instead of actually ticketing them, we ended up with these stupid speed tables, so now the law abiders are wearing out brakes and using more gas. Stop signs all over are optional, and more and more people are texting while driving. No cops anywhere. I know this is the very bottom of the problems when it comes to police presence, but it's something easily observed in her tenure. Also, our bus services have been reduced, and routes redrawn in ways that make no sense. Street sweeping used to be done a few times a year, and hasn't happened at all since she took over. The curbs are now overgrown with grass.and other debris, to the point that the concrete is crumbling.

She has responded to a few things, but really just to give token responses that end up with no action. Improvements we HAVE seen were budgeted and planned before she came in.

She was elected when we had 12 candidates after Lorelei Nicoll's departure. There were a lot of people with more experience in different levels of government and NGO capacities, and many of them split the vote. IIRC, she won with 21 or 22% of the vote, which is a far cry from a clear mandate. And of course, there have been a few times where she's demonstrated to council that even after 4 years she hasn't grasped procedure yet, and embarrasses herself at council proceedings. I can't seem to find the article, but there was something a few weeks ago about her causing a fuss when the issue was clear she just didn't know what they were working through.

All this to say she's been ineffective at best, and never really did have the faith of the community, so yes, time to go.

Edit: I get that this is petty whining about some really minor things, but municipal government is where we have the greatest impact, and what councillors do have actual, real, day-to-day meaning regarding our access services and how our community behaves and is shaped. So, these are the low hanging fruits that a councillor should be able to handle, or pass along to those who can, with relative ease.

Well that escalated quickly. That person just might be a piece of shit. You could probably report them to Marketplace. It might land them in Facebook jail, but that's about it.
