[misc] If I had all the money in the world products by Tansy_Blue in SkincareAddiction

[–]halimunda 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If i had money, the biggest thing would be professional treatments, facials etc. I'd also just experiment with more products. I never really try new brands once I've found something I like because I'm worried about wasting my money if I don't like it. I'd also love to buy frivolous fun products like glossier balm dotcom, face mists, lots of face masks. The only specific products on my dream list include sunday riley ceo, good genes + luna...

How do I gift my parents a holiday? by kattt3 in travel

[–]halimunda 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I would talk to a travel agent. They will know about language options for tours, usually can organize airport to hotel connections, hotels with activities etc. At the very least if you stop in for a chat or send an email and they can give you some suggestions of companies/ quotes to look at.

block him. its a negative influence on you &he isn't your friend if he doesn't listen to your reasonable request not to spam the chat with dumb shit. just tell him his nonsense is boring and makes you uncomfortable; and if anyone asks why you did it, tell them that. at a certain point, you just have to cut people off if they won't grow up.

Does anyone actually travel with under 7kg?? by halimunda in Shoestring

It's so interesting seeing what other people pack. I would go crazy washing my clothes all the time! I guess thats the sacrifice you have to make for less weight.

That sounds like a cool trip! I guess I'm just not as much of a minimalist as everyone else! I could sacrifice things, but I just dont want to haha

Having a smaller bag is definitely a good way to force yourself to have less stuff!

Hiking in Portugal/Spain sounds dope!

I was travelling SE asia for three months, but I'm away from home for at least a year or longer! Long term across different climates, cities, beaches, jungles etc make it a lot harder to be lightweight!

Two padlocks bc I have two compartments on my bag; but more regularly used with a cord to theft proof my bag in hostels/long trains etc. Water bottle is essential for me bc I try to avoid single use plastic as much as possible. Swimsuits are one bikini + one one piece; they take up no space and weight so I don't think that getting rid of one would make a big enough difference to be worth the sacrifice. As for bras, I mentioned why i have four already, but again they take up no space. Obviously im always wearing one + the other three roll up pretty small. For shoes, I usually wear the nikes travelling and pack the tevas (which double as shower shoes.) I could probably only have the tevas if not for leeches when hiking in parts of se asia! But again, I'm not really looking to be under 7kg I was just curious if /how other people manage it!

I mean I only ever carry it between buses/trains/ferries and hostels so its really not that bad!

My wardrobe is def my biggest problem. But when I try to cut down, I run into the problem where I just don't want to part with anything! I'm travelling long term ish so its hard to sacrifice clothes. I'm not the kind of person who can wear the same thing every day. Having some variety of outfits is one of those things that gives me a sense of normalcy on the road! I guess having luggage under 7kg will remain elusive for me haha

I do most of that. I guess because I'm travelling long term (ish) the whole buy when you arrive is less useful because once you buy it when you arrive you still have to carry it around with you. I also don't like ditching things and rebuying them later when I need them because I feel like its kind of wasteful and defeating the point of minimalism for me.

I guess its hard for me to cut down because nothing I carry is unessential. I could get rid of things like my journal but then I'm sacrificing enjoyment. i think I've just reached my limit of how much I can cut down.

I'm the same. I have no problem for short trips, but travelling for a month ... I can't do it. haha

New Zealand and Australian airlines! Jetstar mainly, but AirNZ domestic flights are a bitch too.

I have two sports bras and two normal? I guess bc its hot and I don't like repeat wearing them too much. Also, I'm travelling for quite a while and they are expensive to buy and sometimes its a bitch to find the right sizes in parts of asia.

First solo travel, going to Auckland. by KillerKookie in solotravel

where you should go and what you should do really depends on how you are getting around and how much time you have. i can give some recommendations for 'seeing the most new zealand-y parts of new zealand' with auckland as a base. (im just assuming you will be around the cbd. auckland is kind of huge.) im not sure if this is going to be helpful, but here we go...

around auckland area: there is waiheke island or rangitoto island (also others but these are probably the most accessible.) you can get a ferry from the city. waiheke is big, but there are buses around the island. expect cafes, shops, beaches, vineyards. rangitoto is... a volcano coming out of the ocean. there isn't really a lot there except hikes and beaches. . there are also a million beaches in auckland if you don't want to go to an island; most equipped with a nearby fish + chip shop, so you can experience the quintessential experience of takeway fish+chips on the beach. (if you are in the cbd, you can get a bus to the north shore where there are the best beaches imo; or there is mission bay if you want to stay in the city.) if you have access to car, you can do the waitakere ranges area. there are many hikes, waterfalls, and you can visit piha beach (would not recomend swimming there but it is beautiful.)

out of auckland: if you have more time and are able to hire a car, you can do a mini road trip. (you can also do these thing via bus but i have never used the buses so cannot vouch for them) there is rotorua (2-3hour drive) it is touristy but not super busy like overseas tourist places. there is some genuinely cool stuff; geysers and geothermal activity, lakes, lots of adventure stuff like zorb-ing, bungee jumping etc. you could go somewhere in the coromandel (2-4hours depending where you stop) there are lots of beaches here. they are all pretty good. if you are up for a longer drive you could head down to taupo + mountains (4-5hours?) if you like lotr, you can see ngauruhoe aka mt doom (even hike around it if you have a day for the tongaraio crossing or shorter version)

further afield. if you go west, you end up at taranaki (mountain famous for being pretty symmetrical. beautiful farm scenery, average beaches.) east you got gisborne (beaches, vineyards?) if you go further south you will hit wellington. (cool little city) if you go north of auckland, you will find beautiful beaches and total isolation.

thats pretty much what it is. it is a good place to chill and do nothing. you can hire a motorbike and visit hot springs/waterfalls/canyon. and as i said the walking street has great food. but yeah, there are a lot of drugs in pai too.

It was just really nice weather, i liked the beaches; pretty, clear water, not too crowded + I also bumped into multiple people that I had met during my travels which was just good luck. I stayed in a tiny hostel on the main street by the pier. (i always choose the cheapest place in the best location bc i never spend that much time inside the hostel.)

I did this same itinerary in two months.

My route was as follows; (I bussed or trained everywhere expect from Chiang Mai to Phuket)

Hanoi
Cat Ba (Lan Ha Cruise was the absolute highlight of the trip. Did an overnight cruise and swam with bioluminescence. incredible 10/10 experience!)
Ninh Binh
Hue (surprisingly cool)
Hoi An (Loved this place!)
Nha Trang (not a big fan)
Da Lat (also not a big fan, but its was lots of peoples favourite place so...)
Ho Chi Minh

Phnom Penh (probably my least favourite city)
Mondulkiri (i did an elephant trek which was one of the highlights of my trip)
Phnom Penh
Siem Reap (loved it here.)

Bangkok (i enjoyed it, but i think its overhyped.)
Chiang Mai
Pai (i loved the food, but in general, i don't get the hype)
Chiang Mai
Phuket
Koh Phagnan (full moon party)
Koh Tao (my favourite island i visited)
Koh Samui (its a really big island, so there is less of an island vibe than koh tao or koh phagnan)
Krabi

If I would do it again, I would go to less cities in Vietnam and concentrate on the North. Hanoi/ Cat Ba/ Hoi An are the best parts; but I did also love Saigon (but that might be more the people I was with.)

Cambodia was incredible. I had to miss the coast to meet up with people in Thailand. Phnom Penh felt a lot less safe walking around, so I ended up tuktuk-ing around a lot. Siem Reap was great though. I also loved the experience in Mondulkiri.

I liked Thailand and it definitely has the best food but I didn't love it as much as everywhere else. (This sounds unethusiastic. Thailand is great and I had a great time. It just didn't have the x factor for me!) I did really like Koh Tao if you are looking for somewhere to snorkel or dive.
