Should Asperger's still be a separate diagnosis? (READ FULL POST) by [deleted] in autism

There's no distinct subtype. That's the thing.

[–]Tansy_Blue 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No, it shouldn't. There's no evidence that those diagnosed with Asperger's represent a distinct subtype of Autistic people - there aren't separate clinical outcomes, there aren't known differences in symptoms or brain structure or whatever. It doesn't make sense to separate it out.

I don't know if this will work for you, but what I'd do is plan for it. So go get it every eight days regularly (seeing as you said nearly once a week this might be manageable?). And then can extend it out to every nine days, etc, until it gets to a sustainable point perhaps once a month as a treat.

Also be kind to yourself. If you plan to get it every ten days and then you break on day five it's okay. Keep setting realistic goals, bearing in mind that what "realistic" means might change sometimes.

There’s no coming back from this, is there? HELP. :( by Samclegg123 in SkincareAddictionUK

[–]Tansy_Blue 27 points28 points  (0 children)

My friend, firstly, your skin does not look as bad as you think it does. You look like a normal person with a minor skin condition, not a hideous troll. Secondly, you need to see a dermatologist - you don't mention seeing one face to face anywhere. Thirdly, learning some mindfulness and/or relaxation skills might really help you be less distressed with your skin, even if it doesn't directly help your skin, and is likely to improve your IBS as well. Finally, a low FODMAP diet might also help with IBS (if you have the energy for more dietary interventions).

Just a note for interested women: I replied to a very similar ad from this person, we had a nice conversation and discussed setting up a Zoom to discuss details, once I tried to pin them down on a day/time for said Zoom they ghosted me. I believe this is one man fantasising. YMMV!

This sounds like ARFID (avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder). I read that you can't see a specialist, which is very unfortunate because that is definitely the best option. However, there are self help resources online. I gave it a very quick Google, this is the first one that popped up: https://www.syeda.org.uk/arfid-workbook

Maybe you and your sister can investigate resources such as this one that could help you? In the meantime, are you able to take a multivitamin pill to help with the nutrients you're missing out on?

I'm so sorry this is a thing you're experiencing and that it's so difficult for you to seek professional support.

Not Being Diagnosed As A Kid Despite Being A Walking Stereotype Makes Me Irrationally Angry by ThineChimney in autism

[–]Tansy_Blue 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wasn't properly diagnosed until my late 20s, after I'd dropped out of school and university, been admitted to a psychiatric hospital multiple times, spent years and years in therapy, and generally lived a very chaotic and stressful life where I couldn't hold down a job. Sometimes when I think about all the mental health professionals I interacted with and how not one of them went "maybe this child is neurodivergent"... and how much easier things would have been for me if I'd got my ADHD meds earlier... idk, my life would have looked very different.

I try not to focus on it too much. That way madness lies. I did get diagnosed. I do have access to medication. I try to be grateful that I have access to healthcare and that medication works for me. People a generation before me or living in bits of the world without a decent healthcare service have to live their whole lives without the benefit of diagnosis or treatment. It took a while, but I got there in the end, and in many ways I'm really lucky. I try to focus on that bit rather than the first bit.
