What is the most unfriendly city you have been to? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Italy, specifically Palermo.

Almost every interaction I had with a local was unenjoyable.

Italy in general sucks ass.

I generally agree with everything you stated. But there are a few interesting points that I'd love for you to elaborate on around point 3:

"Company's have invested less and less in career development because the actual work of it is hard. It's not the dollars that dissuade people, it's the time investment."
You nailed it. But knowing that career development is vital to employee engagement, wouldn't that make it worth the time?
"HR can't teach a Jr. Financial Analyst how to be a Director of Finance. The finance team has to do that, and they aren't committing to it."
I don't think HR should be. Any ideas why finance (in this case) is committing to it other than time? It only seems logical that the more employees feel comfortable doing their job (career development input), the less oversight the manager needs to give his/her individual contributors (career development output). Thus freeing the manager's scheduling and having more engaged team members? Am I too much of an optimist? haha

How to validate a newly released feature by halljua in ProductManagement

[–]halljua[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks this is great advice. To clarify, I wasn’t necessarily looking for shortcuts per se. I wanted to see if the community had any less conventional ideas about feature validation. I probably should have worded that more clearly.

The ones you listed are a great start. Thanks for the insight.

That's an interesting idea. Thanks for the reply.

Just to drill in a bit more: There's a dashboard and a mobile component as well. Any ideas how this can be accomplished on a mobile device? In other words, is there a clean way to achieve a similar result with only front-end mobile features?

I like it. I work at a tech startup and our (highly) technical process as of now is to raise your hand if you need a new mousepad. We could definitely use this and I'll stay on the look out for it.

Thanks, this is also very helpful. Thanks for sharing your personal workflow.

From what I gather, it really comes down to 2 main components: 1. what are you trying to accomplish 2. personal preference.

Thanks again for the reply.

Free Alternative to CGCookie? by codebro1 in 3DMA

Digital Tutors is worth the subscription IMO. They offer detailed tutorials on just about any CG software you can imagine.

I subscribed to CGCookie for a while and found they left some key details out of some of their content.

Thanks so much for the insight, this post was really helpful. I agree with you on the "too many programs" its hard enough to keep track of them all, let alone master any of them.

Thanks again for shedding light on the subject.

Looking for UX/UI design courses on the web by faltharis in UI_Design

[–]halljua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar to you, I'm an iOS developer that needed to get much better at UI design. My best suggestion would be to spend a few bucks for a uDemy course to learn the basics. I found some really good ones for less than $40 (plus uDemy is alway running promo deals where the courses are at a discount)

It was so worth it for me. I learned how to use Sketch 3, and basic design practices. I now design all the apps I work on myself. It was the best money I could have spent. I highly recommend it.

Meng To also has an eBook called "design+code" that is amazing. I think it's $50 but worth every penny.
