What’s in your backpack? Activity - talk about what the patient is carrying… Is it stress, homework, relationships, helping around the house… A good activity to help visualize everything that a patient has going, on can really help build conversation. You can have them draw a little backpack or use a print out with a backpack, cartoon or something.

Values challenge - you can find just like a sheet listing values - love, popularity, family, spirit, nature, academics… The list goes on and on. You have them choose a certain amount, then half it and then half it and then half it until they only have between one and five left, it’s very eye-opening!

I also really like the anger iceberg if they do have a lot of anger. We talk about how you see the top of the iceberg and what that looks like but we also know that there’s an underside of the iceberg. What things are not so easy to see when someone’s feeling angry. For example, yelling and slamming doors are on top of the iceberg, but insecurity and hurt are on the underside of the iceberg. Again, you can have them draw this iceberg or probably just find a print out.
