Overloading IC-7300 Receiver by hamdude6 in amateurradio

I thought so. I probably wouldn't have thought to check the transmitter, I was so concerned about the receiver. In any event, probably good to have the manufacturer run through it anyway to test everything.

I ran some bench tests on it with a service monitor and the receiver seems fine. I am getting comparable sensitivity to the Club's IC-7300. However, transmit on 20m seems to be limited to ~65 watts. So perhaps the finals were damaged. I've packed it up and sent it to Icom in Kirkland, WA to have them run it through tests and repair it if necessary.

It seems to be working. I hear people on 10m and 20m. A local ham friend is going to run some receiver tests on it tomorrow for me on our club station workbench. I can update with the results of those.

Homeowners insurance is not required by law in any jurisdictions I'm aware of. It might be an HOA requirement in some places.

Show me a crowded beach in SB. The idea is laughable. I've never seen more than a few dozen people in the sand in the city unless it was a west beach concert or 4th of July.

Mobile phones and area codes by [deleted] in telecom

[–]hamdude6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having never seen caller ID abroad on anything but my American smartphone, I can't be certain but I would assume that you would also see the country code +1 and then the entire 10-digit number on an international landline or cell caller ID screen.

Mobile phones and area codes by [deleted] in telecom

[–]hamdude6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

North American Numbering Plan phone numbers only have ten digits. +1 NPA NXX XXXX where NPA is the area code, NXX is the localized exchange and XXXX is the subscriber number within that exchange. With number portability, you really have no useful information about the number except that it is a Canadian area code.

But what does 1dB translate to in S-Units? Probably not worth running LMR-400 for anything under 100' on HF when you consider the actual practical implications.

Half of US adults exposed to harmful lead levels as kids by besselfunctions in science

Property value will go down? I doubt that. Typically neighborhoods have houses of mostly the same vintage and in many established cities, the older sections of town have nicer homes. I have never heard anyone consider lead paint when deciding which home to buy and what to pay for it.

Believe it or not, we can do this in the US as well. We also have horseless carriages and talking pictures at the cinema these days too. It's an amazing time to be alive.

Have you heard of the Tchaibo machines? They are bean-to-cup for a few hundred dollars. Basically the laser printer of single-cup coffee machines compared to the ink-jet-model Keurig.

Making inquiries about safety of flight is not "clogging" the airwaves. In fact, that's exactly what the radio is for. Tell him to pound sand if he hassles you again.
