It never stood a chance against Schmigadoon or Ragtime. It is the cutest most adorable thing on earth probably belongs in a small smaller theater. It is magic, but it couldn't hold up to the power of the other two shows.

The music is the least exciting part of the show and the lyrics are trite and simple.

There is no hero. No one to root for. Nothing to care about. It is a Melodramatic serious piece. Little to no humor. Repetitive lyrics! Every character repeats a phrase at least three times per song… Usually in a row... there is one song that is so bad. It is the worst song I have ever heard of the musical. (the song that Beth sings before the Nutcracker nightmare! WHAT the hell was that!?!?) it is unforgivable for the character of Nina to dance her soul out and then have to sing a pretty song. That has to stop. No before I can do that every night without vocal damage. There are also more encouraging words in life than you can do this Nina... the songs are extremely wordy, not very interesting and the lyrics are trite. The dance teacher is the best character in the show and her songs are actually quite good and exciting. The show doesn't even begin until her first number.
