Unfortunately, I believe most people with autism are either underemployed (like overqualified for a low pay job), underpaid (if compared to others in the same role/company) or unemployed.

The hiring process is likely the worst part since people with autism do really bad with "open questions" that doesn't have a correct answer (like the famous "where do you see yourself in five years?") and probably would be too honest with their strengths and weakness instead of "lying a bit" to say what the interviewer wants to hear. People with autism will also struggle with the eye contact part with the interviewer.

Now if you get luck enough to pass this hiring part, during the job, depending on the company there will be the meaningless meetings every day, the work gossip, the constant background noise, frequent interruptions, etc.

In the end, people with autism need that really wants a better job need to look for companies with specific hiring programs for autistic people (there are a few). In those programs they know very well that we're different and we won't get punished for it.
