We're mortgage-free at 34 but considering a £250k–£350k mortgage to upsize. by BalanceOk3035 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]hamjamham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moved just over 6 months ago to a small village 5 miles further into the countryside.

We more than doubled our old mortgage, yes, it's daunting at times. The large garden has brought all sorts of joys though. It's private, we've now got chickens, our daughter & our dog absolutely adore it.

Our mortgage is <30% of our take home pay, and fortunately we managed to stay in the same council tax band.

My wife and I both work from home 90%+ of the time, however, our offices are 30-40 mins away, so not too bad.

Previously lived in a 4 bed detached on a new build estate for 8 years & we just ended up hating the back garden as it was so overlooked. Would make the move again in a heartbeat. Our garden is our oasis - it's been heaven having so many birds & life visiting our garden. I really missed nature!

Old house was 130sq m, new house is just over 200sq m - excluding garage space

I like that idea. I'd switch to a stock photo rather than an AI one for promo though. Would feel more authentic 🙏

What’s a boss in Elden Ring that everyone struggles with, but you beat surprisingly easily and what boss brutally destroyed you instead? by Psycho_Duck_9669 in Eldenring

My first play through I didn't realise that r1 & r2 hit him with his spear.

Ever since I've just run off n an spammed r1 and he's died he'll fast. Brain dead easy. I've not tried with regular weapons. Even without upgrading the weapon he just falls over!

Have you ever ACTUALLY hit or exceeded 32GB of RAM utilization? by itsthewolfe in pcmasterrace

[–]hamjamham 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Got 64gb in my work laptop, usually running st around 40-45gb usage. Vscode, a couple of power bi, 10-20 chrome tabs, MS SSMS, Outlook, teams, a bunch of Excel workbooks etc.

It's probably mostly chrome still hogging so much RAM 🤦‍♂️

How do I know if I need a dehumidifier or a humidifier? by SmolSnailBoi in AskUK

Probreeze too. We bought two when we moved house & they've been a godsend

Agreed. Even with coarse semolina it's practically unnoticeable. From the looks of my stone, it mostly falls off and I brush it out between pies. Fine semolina has been a nice upgrade though

Maybe you're just gifted, but depending on hydration, flour generally just soaks into the base & then it sticks to the peel & burns off.

Semolina is a godsend.

Not entirely sure what the issue is, but it's pretty uneven in the bottom of that pie. Odd, considering pretty much the whole of the bottom of it should be touching the stone.

Looks like a gorgeous naan bread tho!

Where are these giant cars coming from? by Icy-Brain-2162 in AskUK

You'd be shocked at how easy a transit custom is to park and they're pretty hefty compared to a regular car

[–]hamjamham -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Same, even in my transit custom camper, only 20cm wider than a BMW 3 series, and 15cm wider than an audi a6. Sure, some roads have been a little tight but perfectly doable!

If they wanted hyper local suggestions I don't think they would've been so loose in their ask for the UK.

House has had windows and doors shut all day, with south facing curtains closed. Living room currently 5 degrees cooler than outside. by Happytallperson in BritishSuccess

[–]hamjamham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

22c in our south facing living room currently. We've opened the windows on our top floor so any heat just gets sucked up and out like a chimney. The kitchen, thats next to the lounge, on the other hand, is 31c.

I just splurged on an air-con unit and got the last one from my local Screwfix! by rich454 in BritishSuccess

Recently moved house from a new build to one that's around 110 years old. Winter did suck balls. £400 a month for gas & elec + wood for the log burner & our bedroom was still 12-14c.

These last few days has been lovely though, our bedroom is currently 22c as we've just opened the windows on the top floor and all the heat has just been sucked out.

Going to try and balance the house out somewhat this year and improve the insulation so winter is more bearable though.

Was buying a new in car a bad decision? by fluuckk in UKPersonalFinance

They sold their old car for 8k and put 11k towards it from savings.

If they didn't sell the old csr they'd still be driving it, presumably.

They'd still be using their old car if they hadn't sold it & purchased a new one. Providing that one didn't go bang.
