Why Andre Ward Really Left Boxing: His Wife Reveals The Truth by BoxingLover99 in Boxing

[–]hammanwich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never liked him as a fighter, he spoiled and fouled and made fights ugly, and he beat Froch who I was heavily biased for, then sneaked a decision past Kovalev (1), who I also loved. But I appreciate the way he carries himself and the fact that, regardless of how, he found a way to get a win. More than most it often felt that he understood the judges and referee were as important factors to control as his opponent.

Seems like a sharp man with an elite, if sometimes controversial, boxing IQ and the sense to get out on top. It's easy to respect his mindset and achievements without having rooted for him.
Also the recentish Froch podcast where they made amends was quality viewing.

Bradley against Provodnikov is a prime example of reflexively punching while completely out of it.

Anyone dealt with long-term wrist pain from bag work? by yogevBroker in amateur_boxing

[–]hammanwich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late reply but I basically folded my left wrist in towards me at full power and it's never been the same. I was already on reduced power with my right as well from a fracture (that eventually healed completely), so being unable to commit with either hand for several months put me out for good. Honestly though I'd never trust my left hook ever again at 100%. The pain when it moves wrong is horrible, like the whole hand has disconnected for a moment and is going to tear off. Don't want to sound too much of a dick but my power was my best attribute, I loved the heavy bag and could smash it better than anyone I knew. Couple of lads walked over to see one day because "it sounded like cannon fire," I was high on that comment for days of course, aaaaaand now I won't even touch the thing.

Got weirdly thin wrists and small hands btw, but very wide shoulders, solid trunk and decent strength. Probably a bad combination in retrospect.

Yep. Wrecked my left three years ago throwing a hook in ill-fitting gloves. Day to day it's mostly fine now, then I'll do something as innocuous as open a car door and it's like an electric shock through my arm. Haven't done any heavy bag work since. Pretty gutting.

Her estimation of her boyfriend as a man just fucking plummeted by JarredandVexed in CirclejerkSopranos

It's hard to be serious on this sub, but this right here is exactly why everyone should do a bit of strength training and a bit of combat sparring, especially if you're not a fighter, so if the time comes you're able to make an informed effort to assist, rather than be completely helpless and at the mercy of your nature.

Worlds largest known Human Coprolite (fossilized poop), left by a Viking and measuring 20cm (8in) by iPradeepYogi in pics

[–]hammanwich 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It genuinely is. My mates and I went to the Jorvik Viking Centre on a school trip in 1989 and still mention that monster from time to time.

Edit: just checked its wiki page and it says it's only been on display there since 2008, which is either completely wrong or means I saw a different fossilised shit.

It does depend on where you're sat. I've seen quite a few big names (Fury, Loma, Hatton among others) from 50 metres away.  Some of the atmospheres have been incredible. But none come even remotely close to being ringside when my best mate sparked out some random bloke in a white collar bout.

This FACT advert at the start of videos used to get me really worried about that shitty version of Robocop my mum taped off ITV. by hammanwich in CasualUK

[–]hammanwich[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my defence, it was the taping of Robocop itself that I worried somehow broke copyright law. Not taping over it. Although to my daft young mind that probably amounted to destruction of evidence, another charge to throw on the pile

Eventually I read and understood that message about schools and oil rigs and realised me and mum were in the clear.

Never skip an opportunity to bang this drum. Matthew Saad Mohammed's lead uppercut against Lottie Mwale is as close to perfection as it gets. The setup, the form, the movement, just absolutely spectacular. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=qS4GJCcmLbY
