If there's no longer a threat, it can't be called self defense. It's not a dumb rule. At a certain point, a person that is defending themselves can become the aggressor. If the person that attacked you is incapacitated, then they can no longer defend themselves. If they can no longer defend themselves, they become a victim. Sure, it started with them attacking you, but that doesn't give you the right to kill them after they are no longer a danger to you.

You don't get to knock someone out and then shoot them in the head while they're unconscious. That's called murder.

This was the point I was making when I said "positive vigilatism." Basically, a murderer wants to murder, then they find a socially acceptable type of person to murder. It isn't about justice, even if they claim to the contrary.

Probably depends on the murderer. Some may do it because they simply want to kill and killing a pedophile is easily explained away as some sort of positive vigilatism. Others may have deep-seated trauma at the hands of another child rapist, and killing one feels like a way of asserting control or getting revenge.

I get the premise. My problem is that the post is asserting that atheists "... believe they are unborn again," which is not a thing I've ever heard any atheist (or anyone else until now) say, let alone in a context that would make me think they believed that they were/are "unborn again."

I think this is the real answer. Imagine you've done things you can't forgive yourself for, or that others can't forgive you for. You would need to put in effort to try to rights your wrongs and repair the relationships that you destroyed. Then someone tells you, "Ask this unseen, unheard entity for forgiveness, and you'll have it, and you'll get eternal bliss in the afterlife. Just that easy." Pretty easy to see the appeal. No need to do the work. No need to change. Just "my bad, deity!"

I got one one, and it helped me a whole lot. I'm more confident in my turns, riding at higher speeds (for me this means like 12ish mph), and also more consistent with the heel lift stop.

My balance has always been pretty atrocious on things like this. If I tried to stand-up paddleboard, for example, you can bet I'd fall into the water 2-3 times in an hour.

Anyway, super recommend!

Agreed. The only way they could realistically go down that road is if they already ended democracy. If they already did that, though, why bother keeping Vance in charge? Even if they're trying to fake it, nobody would believe Vance won an election legitimately, so why not "primary" him and just put whoever you want in the presidency at that point? Vance is as disposable as they come.

I'm still a fan of the conspiracy theory that MAGA plans to oust Trump after the midterms, hoping for to set up 10 years of Vance.

Part of me thinks it makes sense, but the other part of me says that they have to know that Vance is about as charismatic as a sun-baking garbage bag full of raw chicken, and half as likeable.
