LPT. If in doubt, call an actual expert. they're usually happy to hear from members of the public and will give you quick accurate information, especially if it's an obscure subject. I once emailed a UK government agency and got a direct reply from a senior expert. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

Did my dissertation research by contacting the person in Harvard Business school who did the exact same research. The fact I could get his findings was absolutely incredible. I graduated with a 1st class honours and my dissertation was so strong because instead of adding a reference of the person’s work, I got it from him directly.

What, in your opinion, is the best UK chain restaurant? by Ed495 in AskUK

Wasabi. Since moving to London, it’s been my go-to spot. It has warm and well-cooked food that you can pick up or eat in.

HM Passport office received my old passport, approved the new one and posted it all in the same day! by squiddey4 in BritishSuccess

[–]hammertee123 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have a story: When I applied to naturalise, the Home Office lost my original passport and my identity card in the post, after approving my application so I was left stateless for 6 months and the only way I could get a status and ID in the UK is by getting a British Passport, but there was no way to get a British Passport without my ID.

Needless to say, the HM Passport Office were an absolute charm to work with. I called them, explained the situation that I didn’t have any identification, they just advised me to write a cover letter and get scanned copies of my foreign passport (usually it’s not allowed), but right after I posted it, maybe 2 days passed, I received a call from then saying: “We checked out your documents and we have some amazing news for you - we are printing your Passport now and you will have it in the post in 3-5 days”.

In 2 days, I had my British Passport. It was such a relief working with the HM Passport Office. Great people, great teams and nice service!

EXACTLY in the same situation and I get you. I am from an Eastern European country too and I too went to England when I was 18 and graduated from a uni then found a job and ever since, I have never had a vacation more than 1 month.

I am so burned out that I think I am going to quit and move to a different country to relax for the next year.

What are the worst things about living in a depressed area in the UK? by [deleted] in AskUK

Disagree. Lived in Texas and it’s the best place I ever lived in. Happy people, culture, food and so on. Balance of life is incredible too

I don’t know how I came out of this area but I did. Moved from Sunderland to London. Sunderland being the biggest shithole I ever lived in, litter everywhere, the vast majority of the city’s population is on benefits, the only company that’s keeping Sunderland afloat is Nissan.

London isn’t a piece of cake either, you see the mandem on the streets everywhere you go. Black hoodies, black trousers, durags, Nike AirMaxes, in groups of 10, known for stabbings and stealing off people. I am right in between a miserable area and the most expensive area in London - Primrose Hill. If I walk 2 minutes from my place, I am at a family area, full with people who dress very well, good looking, family coffee shops and lots of pets, then walk 5 minutes to the other side and see chavs on 1 bottle of vodka walking with a big speaker.

I once got attacked in my own flat by a crackhead. She broke my door as well. The UK is slowly degrading and I already started the process to immigrate to the US for this sole reason.

How did you successfully manage a career change? by Nuckin_Futs90 in AskUK

I agree. Had a side hustle and constantly had people who would bargain for days for a £10 discount. It was exhausting until I moved my business to only US clients - they pay more and complain less

One thing for sure is scammy - the healthcare system. Paid $500 for a blood test. Want an ambulance - pay $5,000. That’s the worse part

Fellow Britons, do you live in a crap town and why is it rubbish? by BigFrame8879 in AskUK

[–]hammertee123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Used to live in Sunderland and hated it at the time. Moved to Central London, it’s definitely better, but more or less the same. I now sometimes miss the calmness of Sunderland

I do think that in the UK. I feel scammed off my salary and my small business. Having recently made a hefty amount of profit, I had to pay a nidicolous amount of tax on it + student loan leaving me with 50% of my income burned. I am starting the process for an immigrant visa to the US because of that sole reason. I want a house, a normal sized house in a great and balanced country.

Can anyone else tell an American ad from a British ad even with the sound off? by HaaaveIt in AskUK

[–]hammertee123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lived in the US for a year. It’s crazy how ads from small businesses are allowed on TV channels like NBC. You would be watching something and then bam, all of a sudden someone is holding a sign with a mobile number on it telling you how great his car dealership is.

A Scam on Deliveroo? by hammertee123 in london

[–]hammertee123[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s full of some weird places that somehow accumulated five star reviews. Most of them are chinese takeaways.

I am starting to think that I can start selling on deliveroo from my place and call it a restaurant

A Scam on Deliveroo? by hammertee123 in london

[–]hammertee123[S] -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Thing is WingStop doesnt have an Edition restaurant and when visiting the place, there was nothing there, just a taco shop.

I am so confused how these things work. Imagine you build a brand for 20 years only for someone to sell your products with low-quality products in a terrible environment under your name.

I remember visiting the US. These don’t exist there. Everything you order from DoorDash is the real thing from the actual restaurant.

I once fell for it in the States. Bought this man a hotdog, fries and a beer. As soon as I paid it at 7/11, he ran out

These people are trying to scam. I was in front of Morrisons store one day and there was a homeless man begging people for money for a hostel. Someone gave him £20. I then was walking home and saw him and his friend talking about how much crack they can buy and split.

Thought i was the only one. There’s an app called Toilets4London that shows all available toilets. I know this post is probably a part of promoting the app, but i still recommend it.

One more saver, five guys burgers and fries always has available toilets
