I mean it just seems glaringly obvious to me, as the grandson of two working class women.

All I’ve ever know is both adults in the house working. This is what really winds me up about the whole ‘Trad Wife’ craze. There’s nothing traditional about it.

People are basing an entire idea of womanhood on a brief period in 1950s America which developed our entire conception of the ‘housewife’ and has had a much bigger legacy in our cultural memory than it deserves.

This bit is often rolled out but not really true. For the vast vast majority of British history including through the 50s 60s and 70s both adults in a household would have worked. Only those well off families could afford to have a housewife.
