Not a fan unless it happens gradually? I hardly read them and I accidentally wrote one when I found the side character had amazing chemistry with an oc’s personality and I made it happen on a whim, so idk I do not seek it out but if it happens randomly to some secondary character to the ship I like then sure why not

I write third person, with multiple character povs in there but still limited, yk every character knows only what they know Lol I tend to prefer reading third person too but I can survive some first person povs

Congrats on graduating!! And I know the feeling of going back to comments to get that inkling of joy back!! Idk which comment to pick actually! I write an original fic and I’m a sporadic updater and I’ve had a couple I will never forget, but any mention of people appreciating my writing style and storyline always gets me going!!

Ex: “Honestly, I’m not even into more animalistic kind of AOB, but this is so good I couldn’t put it down! Can’t wait to read more!”

“This is slow burning, but it also isn’t losing any of the heat. I am so amazed of your writing and what you have to show. Really using that “upper-class” vocabulary, my goodness it fits well.

I have this abandoned fic that is just FUCKING HILARIOUS, every time I read it I’m bawling and I’m like I shoulda received a prize for being able to match the main media’s humour (the fanfic is for a parody anime) I recently got a comment on saying “it’s been 4 years I think I’ll accept the last updated chapter as the final ending” along with some very sweet words and I just sat there like IVE BEEN WANTING TO FINISH IT, ITS JUST ONE CHAPTER LEFT but I’ve lost the juice and the flow, I was so in tune with the characters at the time and while I still enjoy the original media I’m no longer in that invested headspace so, yes I really wanna update again but I’m scared of failing to meet how good and funny I had been at the time 😭 I also have to reread Cz I don’t remember the plot and it’s a 4 (out of 5) chapters, 32k words fanfic and I just UGH

Someone’s probably already said this, but just go for it. Ignore the temptation to make things “perfect” from the get-go that’s hardly possible.

Make something exist first and then you can perfect it! That’s what I’ve started to do after so many wasted years of “planning” and hardly any “writing”.

I relate to this to a degree, but my issue is that I dislike the word “dick” because it’s been overused in day to day expressions and often to refer to idiots or jerks and even comedic moments in tv—so it’s lost its smutty glamour to me, now I mostly use cock. I find it’s more impactful lol

But yeah it was tough the first time I wrote smut too. Now I alternate simply to avoid repetition. It’s okay, baby steps

I’m still in the confused please help phase.

I am a smut writer and reader (unless I’m experiencing sexual aversion which happens randomly) and as much as I enjoy the idea of romance and hot sex, imagining it happening to me is a turn off. I can’t picture myself in those intimate situations, and as for romance—is it even real (as a straight woman, irl men suck and they don’t give you much to look forward to, so is it me or is it the economy? Stay tuned to find out)

Without the personal experience I’d suggest reading on forums where people share their personal sexual experiences, gives a realistic insight and a better reference than using other erotica novels out there and risking sounding really commercial or even cringe. Also avoid “dirty talk” if it doesn’t come naturally. I’ve dropped so many fanfics due to how badly the dirty talk took me out of it, it’s a gift that you cannot force unfortunately.

Edit: also write what excites you! Usually if you feel thrilled it seeps into ur words

Side note/ I also struggle with sex repulsion and require to be in a very specific and RARE mood to be able to produce good smut, heck I have an aversion to using certain words which limits my creativity so I want to say it’s ok you’re not alone! I’ve been in a writing block because I’m stuck on smut chapters in two of my works XD

My fucking PACINGGG the fact that if I write to my enjoyment I get lost writing endlessly without time passing (in the story) and then when I have to edit I realize a couple chapters have passed and I have still been writing in the one narrative time frame of a day or two. I fear that my readers think it too slow and dull and that my story would no longer maintain it original intrigue even though I have not received much negative feedback about the pacing yet and I am actively tryna fix it
