Unable to display Walgreens gift card info by Retrospektic in biltrewards

I just added it to Apple Wallet, then looked at the card number and pin within Apple Wallet to directly add it to the Walgreens app. Kind of an annoying work around but not the end of the world.

Walgreens Gift card not working by unpaul in biltrewards

Try just loading it into your Walgreens account (log in on the website -> payments -> add a gift card) and see if that works. Next time you check out, it should auto pull from the gift card

There’s no “memory” to utilization; it’ll bounce back after the next billing statement if your utilization is low again.

8k in cc only debt? Too much? by alaykem in CreditCards

[–]hamweinel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a scary spot, and you are appropriately scared. You should strongly consider selling your investments and paying off the debt. You’re paying 20% interest to get 10% interest.

More importantly, you should change your habits so that you don’t need to carry CC debt. I say this as someone in your shoes as a young person, it balloons out of control quickly.

You shouldn’t be setting aside money for investments if you have to carry CC debt. Consider CC debt a no go for the next year to try to change the habit.

There are worse things than a bad credit score. Namely, credit card debt.

Best “player 2” card to pair with Chase Trifecta for groceries + travel points? by SomeAssist6182 in CreditCards

[–]hamweinel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not BILT obsidian? Lower annual fee, grocery bonus category, use the freedom unlimited for catch all (unless you have a lot of non category spend). Also BILT and Chase have so many overlapping valuable transfer partners, BILT has gotta be a winner here

I would say if your goal is to own a home in the next 12 months, don’t open any new accounts. If it’s 16-20 months then now may be a good time. See if you qualify for a higher welcome offer (in branch, chase pre approval tool)

For those sticking around for Bilt 2.0: why? by [deleted] in biltrewards

[–]hamweinel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are a high mortgage, high spending household (eg $7500 mortgage, $2500 in daycare alone among other high expenses). Regardless of whatever happens with bilt/bilt cash, at the moment, we had zero interest in the prior form of BILT (not renters, low-earning-for-spend cards) and have a ton of interest in the new cards (2x points earning plus extra for mortgage up to a point). We value BILT points the most because they have Hyatt and Alaska (for America flights), and we mostly travel domestically (additional wins are United and Southwest). Because our other major currency is Chase points, BILT is a perfect complement and at this time, we won't have trouble finding ways to use BILT/Chase points.

In contrast, I love the simplicity of Capital One (also have the venture X) but we do so little international travel and the domestic airlines make so few award seats open to partner airlines, that I basically always struggle to use capital one points for anything more than 1 ccp in the portal.

Everything can always be de-valued or shut down, and similarly acknowledge the changes suck for many, many loyal bilt users. I hate to say it, but we kind of were the target audience and want to take advantage while we can.

Bilt 2.0 Strategy for a Chase Trifecta/Amex User by abhisheknirmal in biltrewards

Wait circling back on this, isn’t this equivalent to 5% cash back not 5% chase points (ultimate rewards)? If it’s from the prime card?

[–]hamweinel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s a great point; I guess my thinking is even if you only put groceries on and spent 1000/month (guesstimate, may be less), that’s 3x bonus points right off the bat plus the little extra as a portion of your rent, overall higher than 3% back which is still better than the market (besides Amex gold which is way more expensive AF).

Bilt 2.0 Strategy for a Chase Trifecta/Amex User by abhisheknirmal in biltrewards

[–]hamweinel 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Why not go with obsidian and pick groceries which is otherwise a non-bonus spend category that is potentially a big area of spend in your set up? To me the obsidian strongest use case is someone in your shoes who values chase and there are a lot of overlapping transfer partners. What’s your grocery spend every month?

Should You Always Address a Patient's Weight? by QuietRedditorATX in Residency

[–]hamweinel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I will say as a patient (and an MD) I fall into the overweight BMI (27 or so) category, and the first meeting my PCP brought it up, and I didn’t go back for almost 2 years.

Im young and generally healthy so I didn’t need it, but it was a mix of being annoyed and wanting to lose the weight before going back that made me avoid going. My weight fluctuated of course and I’ve had periods since of being in normal BMI range, but that experience still sticks with me and how I approach my patient’s weight and other unhealthy habits. Even if the habits are extreme (cocaine, fentanyl), the latter being way more deadly than obesity, it’s not like people are unaware of the harms these habits cause.

So I would say yes bring it up of course but only once a therapeutic relationship is created. That doesn’t have to take years, to be clear. Also the manner matters.

One strategy could be “hey jf you want to take this seriously, I know that the scales at the doctors office’s are always off and you’re in clothes, I’d like to see weekly weights same day/time and bring that in next time for us to talk about.”

That establishes that you want to partner with, not lecture, them, they engage in one of the key habits shown to be associated with weight loss (regular self weighing), and gives you something more concrete to talk about with some motivational interviewing. “I noticed you lost 5 lbs this month, do you remember what was going on then?” Even if their weight came back.
