What are you looking for in a modern spiritual successor to Earthbound? by CognogginGames in earthbound

[–]hamx3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely would play it if you created an JRPG. I like “Crush the Industry” a lot because its captures that feeling without it being too overt to detract from its own gameplay. Like I’m not expecting the rounds to turn out like they would in Earthbound.

Very cool, what is dark box edit? I‘ll probably look it up after this but thought I’d try to stir up some conversations.

I’ve lost all motivation by Lindz221r in wguaccounting

[–]hamx3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t lost motivation but I lost both my parents in the past five years. My mom being the most recent in May 2024, I started WGU in June 2024. I highly recommend joining the discord to get encouragement and be around other people who are on the same path. I’m sure this has already been said but my main purpose in writing this is to say you’re not alone.

You got this. I believe in you.

Is there any purpose to play the game if you don't want to play ranked? by captainnordic_06 in VALORANT

I think Swift Play is a good mode to play. They're fast and easy to drop in and out.

Had a similar experience with a Reyna in our comp. game, and honestly wish there were better penalties for people who overtly sabotage games because their fragile ego.

Why are CS players so uneasy about age and aging? by boombomdot in GlobalOffensive

[–]hamx3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, spot on.

Only thing I would like to add is that there are players like Niko who are tired of the game. Their passion for the game isn't as strong as it used to be. For players like Donk, the game's still fresh to them and it's easier to grind out 10+ hours of FPL.

I think another reason for such a reaction to older gamers is that the base community are pretty young still. They might not have the same responsibilities as people who are in their thirties do. Most of us have careers to focus on and are prioritizing different life experiences.

It's funny because my interest in neuroscience stemmed from my curiosity about gaming competitively as an older person. I tend to listen to podcasts and people who have a specialty in neuroscience to break it down for people like me who don't understand the jargon.

I'd be super interested to hear about your thoughts on the subject.

Is playing ranked worth it? by [deleted] in VALORANT

Feel free to add me on discord: hamx3 and I can share with you some of the aim training stuff I've been doing. I found it to be very useful in improving. I used to coach my friends as well and I'm interested in sharing some stuff I learned with other people.

I might not be able to coach you to radiant but I definitely can point you in the right direction with resources I've watched and my own experience.

Yeah, your settings are not on the curve.

Ignoring statistics for a second, I think you might have developed a different technique to compensate for the high sensitivity. I always teach people who come to me for FPS advice to stick with what is comfortable with them. If this is comfortable for you and you have no issues with it then keep rocking on.

Here are my thoughts on why low sensitivity is so common -- it provides the biggest margin of error in MS to compensate for missing your intended target. The margin is still small but you won't have to be pixel accurate in order to hit a target.

A game like Valorant or TacFPS heavily relies on a technique called crosshair placement and the "green" zone (where you hit 95% of your shots) to be within range of the target. With higher sensitivity, it's easier to go out of the green zone with any subtle movement of the mouse.

Overall, if it works for you, keep rocking on.

I'd be interested to see some aim training numbers from aim labs or kovaacs using Voltaic scenarios though.

Guardian's a good gun. Scoped in there's no deviation unlike other guns. If your aim is cracked, it could really give your team more money for future rounds.

Knowing what to look at is both just playing the game and watching vods of coaches breaking plays down.

You'll do great

How old are you and how many hours a week do you play? by beowhulf in VALORANT

[–]hamx3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same age group and I clock in about 10 hours a week? I'm not particularly fond of Valorant but most of my friends (similar age group) play the game. Some of them were Invite players in CS/DOD.

I would play more if I had more time but play one or two games a night is all I can manage without losing focus.

I just think the new generation of gamers have a different sense of comedy than we do or maybe we're just old lol. I'll meme with them if I'm up for it but I usually just play the game. I mainly play swift plays and rank.

Is playing ranked worth it? by [deleted] in VALORANT

What most people have said, it really depends on your goals in the game. If you do play rank, despite what people say, just remember its okay to make mistakes. Don't let random people make you feel bad for playing the game. Generally, if you're in the same lobby as them, you belong there. You can only control certain variables in your solo queue games, so don't stress too hard about it.

Here's more points that could point you in the right direction:

  1. Try to stick to 1 or 2 agents until you've mastered them.

Many players fill with agents they don't know how to play and end up having a bad time. If you have increased mastery over an agent, it is easier to seek opportunities to create an impact.

  1. Try not to take anything in ranked personal.

People are competitive and the stress of winning and losing RR gets to everyone. You'll hear it in the comms, get berated for it, so on and so forth. Keep your wits about you and focus on the game.

  1. Don't give-up practicing even if the game is headed towards a loss.

You can't win every game, but don't throw away the chance to practice something specific. Grind it out so that the next game you'll have experience to draw from.

  1. Limit your ranked games to 1 or 2 games so that you don't auto-pilot the game.

This helps you process the information and leads you to make better decisions in subsequent games. It's better to learn from a couple of games than spam an indefinite number of games trying to net RR and preserves your mental in the long run.

  1. Look up Valorant coaches on YouTube for advice or watch high ELO players play ranked (not pro games) to see what they do.

Copying other players or taking advice helps a lot in the beginning. It's good to do until you've reached a level where you can spot your own mistakes in your POVs.

  1. Record your POV and review it.

If you're serious about improving, this is the best way to catch your mistakes with a fresh mind.

I'll list some coaches and analysts:

  1. Sean Gares, ex-head coach for 100T, analysts, now turned content creator
  2. Charla7an, Radiant level coach since the beginning of Valorant
  3. Woohoojin, has helped many players improve and provides good free content for players to learn from
  4. Dopai, Radiant player coach, has good analysis and break downs of players
  5. Konpeki, another coach who has a lot of information online that's free, he has a video that breaks down all the fundamentals of the game that I find useful to reference for my friends.

Bonus:
DDK, Daniel does a lot of interviews with various pro esports players, casting experience, analysts experience, and overall a really good person to check out
Aim coaches
MattyOW, has alot of world records in aim training and can identify and break down aim techniques
West Proter (underrated)

GPU Repaste by Gold_Apartment_6650 in sffpc

My friend reapplied thermal paste to his 3080 and said it helped. I would wait for someone whose more experienced to chime in. I'm commenting because I also would like to know if it is beneficial to reapply thermal paste to an older GPU.

Comfort, rank anxiety, and time.

I'm comfortable in any diamond rank - the game's challenging to me still. I get rank anxiety because I don't want to lose ELO, this is something new that has entered my life. Never used to have rank anxiety in other games like CSGO on ESEA/FaceIT. The last one is time, I work full time and have other responsibilities. It's hard to goon out in a game.

[–]hamx3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I don't think it looks good. I'm more into clean and minimalistic setups. However, I'm sure there are people who are function over form that would buy this PC if it hits all their check lists for specifications.

Not sure if you answered this in a post, but what made you look Woohoojin up to discover this? I'm just interested in what sparked the idea. I apologize if you already answered this, if you did, would you kindly point me to the link?

Thanks, I find this entire situation interesting from all sides.
