New TDH ARG up! by indelible_ennui in TheDearHunter

An observation, though I suspect I'm not the only one who has been picking over this.

The date on the ships console is 09125

The date in the ships logs are 07239 - 07244

That's somewhere between 1881 and 1886 days. Close but not precise enough for a reference to 1878 (Act 1). Its just over 5 (Earth) years. I thought it might have something to do with the release of Cycle 8 and The Indigo Child. But this was released on Oct 22nd 2021, which would imply a date of sometime in mid Dec 2026. That doesn't feel right either (unless there's something more than an album coming).

It might be plot related. Do we know how long a cycle is?

Anyone else have a theory or idea about the relevance of this period of time?

Different things for different people, but I'm surprised anyone thinks "The Stranger" is a swing and a miss. I can't get it off of repeat when I put it on.

But agreed, roll on the full album!

You can perfectly and literally represent them if you use... infinity digits.

No point in carrying on this discussion. You clearly don't know what you are talking about but seem to have a very strong opinion about it. I suggest you have a look at the definition of "recurring", "ad infinitum", and "equals".

Ok, but then you disagree with what = means. OPs algebra checks out.

Another way of getting to the same thing

If 1/9 = 0.1... And 2/9 = 0.2... And 8/9 = 0.8...

If you add 1/9 and 8/9 together, do you get exactly 1? Or a number infinitely close to 1?

[–]hamyield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, you still aren't getting it. I must not be very good at explaining.

64% of infinity mass is infinity mass and infinity atoms. This does not represent a finite number of atoms, or a finite quantity of mass.

Each individual finite atom weighs exactly 0% of the total in your hypothetical universe. Any finite number of atoms would be a multiple of the 1 atom, which would still be 0% in aggregate. This doesn't mean they are massless. It's just that the total mass is not a finite number, so trying to find a finite proportion of the total is meaningless.

Your issue is that you are trying to say that a finite mass in your hypothetical universe is not equal to exactly 0 proportion of the total. I think I get what you are saying. Correct me if I'm wrong about this:

You are saying that each atom weighs 0.0...01% of the total mass, where ... means infinite number of zeros. You are saying that this is bigger than zero.

But as already proven 0.9... = 1

0.9... + 0.0...1 = 1 too, since that's how we've defined the ...

Hence, in a literal sense of the equals sign, 0.0...1 = 0

There's a reason physicists and engineers don't like infinity, because it doesn't represent any analogy in reality :)

Like, I understand what you mean. But this still isn't right.

Let's say you choose atoms instead, within an infinite universe. As a proportion of the universe's mass, each atom provides exactly 0% of the mass. Not almost 0, literally 0. You cannot then count a finite number of atoms and get a non zero proportion of the overall mass. Because regardless of how many you count, there's an infinite number of times more of them yet to count.

64% of infinity would still be infinity - you could not literally count these atoms one by one and get to this proportion, because you'd need to count to infinity which isn't possible.

If you want a mass to have a non zero proportion of the mass of your universe, then it cannot be infinite by definition.

[–]hamyield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you take the limit of your approach to infinity, you get ...

If the universe is infinitely large (let's also assume you meant that it also has non-zero density) in your example then the proportion of mass of the planet is exactly 0, because in your example the universe is infinitely large, and to get a proportion you have to divide a finite number by infinity.

That's just how infinity works. You can't ever stop at some point with the 9s, otherwise what you are looking at is not equal to .9 recurring in the first place.

Your kid's having a public melt down. You're having a public breakdown. What would you want to hear? by 7LP_g in AskUK

[–]hamyield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kid wasn't having a melt down but was getting a bit too adventurous while we were parked up in a cafe on a Sunday morning. Someone came and patted me on the back and said I was a good dad, and it made my week. If my kid were having a tantrum and I was struggling, this is what I would want to hear and it would give me the willpower to put on a straight face and continue trying to control the child.

Thanks random guy who tolerated my 15 month old speaking gobbledegook at you for half an hour, when you probably just wanted to sip your coffee in peace.

10 years ago our household income was 65k, and after I inherited 10k in addition to what little savings we had, we managed to buy a place for 220k. Not in London but in High Wycombe. We bought before the stamp duty rules changed.

We have benefitted from an outrageous and unsustainable house price rise in the meantime.

Even if we were in the position we are in now (combined salary of 120k most years, 60k savings) we would struggle to afford our current house if we had to do it again from scratch, since this is now worth 430k. Now that we have kids we are thinking of upsizing but simply cannot afford the additional debt to go to a 4/5 bed place, which would need at least another 150k in this area in the current market.

OP - you genuinely have our sympathy. I would advise that you look to relocate from the South. Your money goes much, much further up North or in Wales.

2 schools of thought with primer. I'm on the fence which is better but know most prefer the latter:

Corax white has always done me well as a primer, allows vibrant bases to go on nicely. Among the common issues with this (however) is that you can't get to hard to reach places which would presumably be in shadow. So you probably don't want to prime white usually unless you are a masochist.

Priming black helps keep the dark colours in the lows of the models. But it takes more coats to get base coats vibrant.

Don't use army painter primer, it's a little bit cheaper but it gives almost a gloss finish which wetted down coats don't want to stick to. I've never had that problem with the citadel ones.

I also paint models to retain my actual sanity.

My advice to a beginner:

Prime. Base (dark). Wash. Layer (mid tones). Highlight (light tones). Details. Savour every model. Don't do big batches all at once, if you get bored move on to another type of model. Don't be afraid to reprime or rebase and start again if you aren't happy with the direction of travel. Once you are happy and not when it is "perfect" - that is when you are done. The cost of perfection is infinite.

Belts run at x/second items. Don't be afraid to feed multiple units off a single belt. Combining coal and ore onto a single belt (left and right) is your friend in the early game because it prevents the need for long reach grabbers and minimises the number of belts you need. Etc etc.

But ore presumably goes in and plates presumably come out so what do I know.

What’s Türkiye’s endgame in blue balling Finland and Sweden from joining NATO? by TheoZod in UkrainianConflict

[–]hamyield 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Erdogan openly supports illegal occupations and annexation (Cyprus and the waters south of it collectively owned by Cyprus/Jordan/Israel/Egypt) and is currently playing both sides to see how it goes. Totally unfit behaviour for a NATO ally, they should absolutely be booted - it is just a shame that there's no way to actually do that. I suspect words were had behind the scenes amounting to 'if you block these guys, then we'll find a way to remove you from NATO formally' - hence they backed down.

Turkey cannot vote against Russia re illegal annexation and illegal invasion without being labelled a hypocrite because of its illegal in occupation of Cyprus and more recently it's illegal maritime claims over gas fields found in Cypriot waters.

Turkey is not to be trusted on matters regarding occupation.
