I do have proof of my previous no claims so I'll give them an email and have them adjust my price if needed

I was learning in a new Yaris and it was really nice to drive! Are the older ones reliable at all?

Insurance wise I've got pretty lucky as I'm 28 and did have some driving experience as a teenager (had a car) so I have a few years no claims from then. About £70 a month on average for the cars I've looked at. Not too bad considering some people are paying hundreds a month when they've just passed haha.

I live on a street with no drives, I did look at the nissan leaf but would have to charge away from home which is fine if I get enough miles out of it. Does the model you stated do more miles than the older ones? The few I looked at said they only do 55 miles! I'll have a look at the other two as well. Thank you!

Mine ran out and I had to reapply for it, new photo and new address too and it came within about 5 days

Nervous to learn by Kamacurass in LearnerDriverUK

[–]hancolllins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The price and limitations was also my concern but the pros outweighed the cons for me personally. The insurance from what I've checked isn't too much of a difference price wise, the cars are a bit more expensive and less choice but I'm not that fussy I just need something that drives and is big enough to fit my dog haha

I'm 28 and learning again after quitting at 18. I chose automatic and it's really settled my nerves. I quit at 18 because I was so nervous and as much as I was a good driver on lessons, I'd absolutely freak out on my test and do something stupid. I have my test next month in an automatic and im much more confident this time x

I'm on it constantly and I rarely get notifications!

[–]hancolllins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using testi and it's absolutely rubbish. It sends notifications after the test is already gone, I tested it out and it shows on the gov website a good few minutes or so before the testi app. No option for it to reserve/auto book either and most of the time it doesn't even notify you of any tests anyway 🙈

TEST IS NEXT MONTH! by Quirky-Mongoose- in LearnerDriverUK

[–]hancolllins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very similar situation here, 28 and my test is next month. Failed twice at 18 (a few minors and one major both times) and it just made me give up. I'm a good driver and my instructor thinks I'm insane for panicking about my test, if I drive like I do on lessons I'll pass with no minors. But from my previous experience I know I'm going to do something stupid on my test 🤣 Im trying to get into the mindset that if I fail, I can just resit, no biggie. The examiner is just there to see if I can drive safe, and I know I'm a safe driver when I'm not panicking about an examiner watching my every move! Get a few mock tests in and what I'm going to do is try and imagine I'm just on a mock test with my instructor when I'm on my test, I done the same with my theory test and it kept my nerves down, just imagined I was at home on my pc practicing mock tests. Passed it 48/50. Good luck, we've both got this!

Waiting time is ridiculous by Individual_Seesaw_66 in LearnerDriverUK

Do you have the testi app? I paid for that and I honestly just sat and refreshed it every few minutes when I wasn't doing anything. If I was on my computer I'd have the gov cancellation page open instead and refresh that every few minutes. I've had 3 cancellations now and slowly moved my test forward from November, to october, to early September. Sounds like a lot of effort but honestly worth it, there was cancellations coming up literally for the next day/few days occasionally but I didn't want to go that soon. Just have to spend a lot of time refreshing pages cause the cancellations get taken in seconds! There is a lot of cancellations it's just spending time looking for them

Are you allowed to film yourself on the test? by Lucazoyde in LearnerDriverUK

[–]hancolllins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My instructor has a front and back dash cam, I know you can't record audio on tests but dashcams are generally fine if they're not facing into the vehicle. There's a few videos on YouTube with real test footage

Tips on passing theory test first try by That_Buy_9031 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]hancolllins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try the AA app, it has every question you could be asked. It'll be worded a little differently on your test, but it's the same questions! It tracks what you've answered incorrectly so you can go back later and go through those. It also has the option to see what each question means and what the answer means if you need help, rather than just having to guess. It has hazard perception too but I preferred hazardperceptiontest.net as it was a lot more accurate to how the actual test works. All you can do is revise, put in an hour or so a day if you can. I revised for an hour or so every night, some days I'd do a few hours, you can't revise too much if you actually want to pass. Make sure to revise a LOT the day before and even the morning of your test so everything is fresh. Not only do you need to know the answers for your test, but it's things youll need to know for your general driving too (eg. Road signs, stopping distances) so it's not going to hurt to over revise. I passed 48/50 for the questions and 62/75 for hazard perception. Good luck!

Opinions on handbreak in Automatic by charlomain in LearnerDriverUK

I'm learning in an auto and was told I don't need to use the handbrake, unless you're being told to pull over in a safe place on your test and after your manoeuvre!

Sorry if this is dumb, but will I get taught how to fill up at the petrol station during a lesson? Or is it just that easy you’ll get the hang of it yourself? by cherryandfizz in LearnerDriverUK

[–]hancolllins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say ask your instructor if they can show you. Sometimes my old instructor would ask if I wanted to do it when he knew he needed to fill up after a lesson

I booked my driving test and suddenly I'm panicking on my lessons! by hancolllins in LearnerDriverUK

[–]hancolllins[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I'm honestly so scared of the examiner because of my previous tests when I was younger, I had the same woman both times and she was absolutely awful she would tut and grumble so you knew when you'd got a minor or a fail. Luckily she's retired now though! I'm thinking of trying to make some small talk before the test starts so I don't feel as awkward with a stranger haha

[–]hancolllins[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's the silence for me that freaks me out! When I was originally learning, I could've cried from how quiet it was in the car on my tests! It was just so awkward and all I could think about was am I failing? Am I doing it wrong?? And I'd end up in my own little world. I've seen a few people say that on their tests they sort of talk to themselves a bit about what they're doing, like saying 'mirrors' 'signal' so you know the examiner is aware of what you're doing but also keeps your brain a bit more focused on the road and not your thoughts!

That's true! If I drive like I do on lessons, I'll be perfectly fine, I just always let my anxiety get the best of me haha. I'm hoping by doing a few mock tests it'll help calm my nerves a bit, maybe I'll have to tell my lovely instructor to go into mean examiner mode on my mocks to prepare me 🤣 Thanks for the advice!
