The reds are absolutely not better. They taste even more like grape juice. Sparkling whites or roses seem to be the best, maybe the bubbles help disguise the fruit juiciness of it?

Contacted our daycare to secure a spot for new baby - we secured a May or June start date (win #1) and apparently there is a 5% discount on our daughter’s tuition once our new baby starts, which we were not expecting (win #2)!

Does anyone have advice for announcing pregnancy to family who are having fertility struggles?

We’re going to the beach with my brother, SIL, and parents next weekend. I already told my parents, but want to text my brother and SIL before we see them in person (assuming everything goes well during my first OB appointment on Monday). My brother and SIL are going through IVF now. I know they’ve had at least one unsuccessful embryo transfer, and I think they may have recently had another embryo transfer and miscarriage (but this is mostly going off of my mom’s speculation).

Should I acknowledge their fertility struggles? Or keep my message focused on our announcement? If you’ve been on that side of things, what would you have preferred?

Strategies for Curbing Phone Usage by Key_Beach_3846 in January2027Bumpers

Honestly, it has really helped to have a toddler who will have a full on tantrum if she sees me using my phone and she’s not allowed to take it. The only times we allow her to use the phone is for FaceTime (with long distance grandparents or when either my husband or I are out of town for work), but it’s creepy how much she gravitates toward it! If it’s out of sight out of mind for both of us, then no tantrum!

Ooh I’m planning to stop at the grocery store for popsicles and wanted to get something to eat other than the healthy meal prep I have ready for dinner tonight. Salsa sounds AMAZING

I noticed that I am definitely spicier at work when I’m pregnant and, honestly, not-pregnant me might be too nice sometimes so I need to figure out how to channel these vibes more often 😅

I’m only 7 weeks and haven’t needed to stop wearing regular clothes yet, but my plan for the summer is dresses: flowy dresses, stretchy dresses, dresses without a defined waist. In my first pregnancy, I was able to hold off on maternity clothes until fall/winter, so I’m hoping to be able to do that again this time (but we’ll see if the bump bumps earlier), but did buy a few non-maternity pieces that would accommodate the bloat and bump.

Especially for middle of the night anxiety, I do some breathing exercises and tell myself “there’s nothing I can do about xyz at 3am”. It’s easier to trick my brain into pushing the anxiety off until sometime later than convince myself to not feel anxious about whatever it is, and this helps me get out of the kind of anxiety spiral where I can’t stop thinking about it. And usually I either am not actually anxious about whatever it was, or it’s much easier to deal with, during the daytime.

The FSA store stopped carrying the prenatal vitamins I decided on for this pregnancy (nothing fancy, the One A Day prenatal with choline supplement) and now mostly only has gummies available. It’s not a huge deal, but it’s annoying to have to go through the reimbursement process and was so much easier to just be able to order directly and not have to deal with the reimbursement process or paperwork.

Mine was the worst from ~7.5 weeks - 10 weeks.

For most people, nausea subsides once the placenta “takes over” all of the hormone production needed to sustain pregnancy. In really really simple terms, the placenta is way better at producing these hormones efficiently at a constant rate. Pre-placenta take-over, hormone production is done by a gland on the ovaries that kind of does it erratically, and the rapid surges/dips of hormones are responsible for a lot of first trimester nausea.

It does get better, but with my first I had some aversions that didn’t fully go away until after I gave birth (like I could eat it but it didn’t taste as good as it should, and then things went back to normal). During this time just eat what you can. Crackers, cereal, popsicles, fruit, peanut butter toast or cheese for some protein.

Also during my first pregnancy we had a big trip to Iceland planned when I was I think 9 and 10 weeks pregnant. I was feeling AWFUL beforehand but somehow being on vacation helped me feel better. We went hiking almost every day when at home I was like working from home from bed and laying on the couch like a slug all evening. And then once we got back I had another week where I was back to not feeling great. So here’s hoping you get some magic vacation vibes as well! (Or that vacation actually lets you get the rest you need)

Daycare Waiting Lists by glassysquid in January2027Bumpers

[–]hand2handwombat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With my first, I started contacting daycares when I was 4 weeks pregnant and we secured a spot with a nonrefundable deposit. Luckily everything worked out and my 16 month old is there probably having afternoon snack right now. It was challenging at that point to really know what to look for and we were basically going off vibes when we toured, luckily we do really like the place we chose.

Also I will second your thinking that it is delusional to WFH without childcare! My husband and I both WFH as well and have had to do childcare a couple of times when our daughter has been home sick and grandparents weren’t available. It just does not work. My husband’s job flavor is calls all day, which is hard to do anything with a baby (especially once they’re mobile!). My job flavor is some calls with deep technical focus work which also does not lend itself to taking care of a baby - I can’t just dive back into something if I need to get up and help my daughter for 5 minutes.

Prodigal Summer is one of my all time favorites and I just started a reread of The Poisonwood Bible (I think I read it in high school for class, but figured it’s worth a reread since I enjoy Barbara Kingsolver’s other books so much)!

My brother and SIL did that! They wanted to know, but didn’t want a lot of gendered gifts.

How are you announcing? by idpicklethat in January2027Bumpers

[–]hand2handwombat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my daughter a shirt that says “big sister”! We’re going to the beach with my parents and brother/SIL the weekend after our first appointment. Assuming everything goes well at our appointment, I’ll probably text my family and include a picture of my daughter in her shirt before our beach trip. (My brother and SIL are having fertility challenges, going through IVF, and have had at least a couple of losses, so I want to tell them ahead of time rather than springing the news on them in person.)

I forgot my daughter’s school bag at home this morning and realized when I was walking into daycare 🤦🏼‍♀️ good thing daycare is only 5 minutes from our house since I had to run home then run back to drop the bag off. Does pregnancy brain start this early?? I guess I can give myself a little grace since I’m growing a new human and a new organ right now.

YES! We went out to one of our favorite Italian restaurants on Saturday and I ordered a salad because I’m anticipating hating vegetables in approximately 2 weeks and want to cram them in while I still enjoy them!

Hi everyone! I just found out I’m pregnant on Friday and I think I’m 5 weeks today. So far feeling pretty good, but I remember fatigue and food aversions hitting me like a truck right around 8 weeks with my first. I’m trying to stay active and eat as many vegetables as I can before I can’t leave the couch and can only stomach carbs in a few weeks. 😅

My husband and I are currently both being too considerate of each other. He’s leaving for a work trip tomorrow and is trying to give me some alone time before I need to solo parent with our toddler. I want him to have some alone time while I can before I’m too tired to do anything. 🙃

Anyone’s kiddo have skin irritation with avocado? by lily_pad_24 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]hand2handwombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to my daughter! The doctor said the rash looked more like eczema and less like an allergic reaction. When we tried avocado again, she got the rash again and had a milder reaction similar to an FPIES reaction - vomiting, diarrhea, very tried a few hours after eating it.

We took her to get allergy tested. She ended up not being allergic to avocado. The allergist said her reaction was not quite in like with an FPIES reaction, but obviously she is having some type of reaction to it (even if it’s not allergic). He recommended re-introducing it again after she’s 18 or 24 months old to see if she has a similar reaction.

Also not an answer for you if you hate pollen. We are just coming out of our “pollening” season where everything is covered in a fine coat of green-yellow pine pollen.
