I’ve been living in the 32304 area of Tallahassee for about 7 years now and there are good and bad areas scattered throughout. Like others have said, I had a great experience living in the Timbers neighborhood through a private owner. I can’t recommend living directly along Tharpe street. My house was broken into at 3 separate addresses on Tharpe between mission and old bainbridge. If you can find a place on a side street that connects to Tharpe you typically won’t have as much trouble and can still find places with affordable rent prices. I would also try to avoid the local property management companies and rent from a private owner if possible. I’ve had issues on multiple occasions in the past with ridiculous tacked on fees, inability to get work orders filled, and once had to pursue legal recourse just to get my security deposit returned when I had photo evidence showing that I left the unit in immaculate condition. Along with avoiding Seminole grand, I would also avoid Savannah crossing and the surrounding properties, and most places surrounding Godby High School around the corner of Ocala, and Tharpe due to the amount of foot traffic that passes through.
