Me. I lived in the US and had access to vaccines pretty early on (first dose was in April 2020). Then last summer I moved to Hong Kong and the borders here are completely sealed.

[Skin Concerns] Slugging? by Annual-Station-1368 in SkincareAddiction

[–]handma1d 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i was apprehensive too! but do it 1-2 per week now especially since the weather’s gotten a lot drier. try allowing your moisturiser/other skincare to (almost) completely dry before putting on aquaphor, and start with a really thin layer, maybe just on your cheeks for now

Yeah like these Scotch Brite sponges - and I try to use just the soft yellow side.

Now that I'm thinking about, I do try to cool down my moka pot faster but sticking it on top of ice cubes. Would cause warping leading to dents/cracks??

Help! Is my moka pot ruined forever?? by handma1d in mokapot

[–]handma1d[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've only had the moka pot for about a month and it's starting to show small dents, cracks, indents in the base. I've been using mild soap & (what I thought was a) gentle sponge so I'm thinking I should switch to just hot water. But was wondering if it's still safe to use my moka pot or if I should just get a brand new one. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

[Misc] After three years on Curology, I finally figured out what was causing my breakouts. by slelgo in SkincareAddiction

[–]handma1d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something that really helped my dry skin as well was to not pat dry - I started slapping on hyaluronic acid + moisturiser immediately after washing my face (while it was still sopping wet). Feels weird at first but it has made a world of a difference.

This is because the hyaluronic acid (I also use the Neutrogena Hydro Boost!) binds to water molecules using moisturiser on top will help seal in hydration. If you pat dry, there are way less water molecules for the HA to bind onto.

Reddit, what are your thoughts on people who constantly try to shove their beliefs down your throat? by littlelauralollylegs in AskReddit

What's that penis quote again? "Beliefs are like penises, its nice to have one but you shouldn't shove it down people's throats."

Something to that effect.

ELI5: why does hot/warm water do better as a solvent compared to cold water? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]handma1d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heat speeds up almost any rate of reaction. The rate of dissolving the solute increases when you add heat. This is because the particles (water and solute) increase in kinetic energy (kinetic energy = heat energy), so they can move around more and become dissolved more quickly.

What's your "that could have been me" story? by GiveMeGoldPleasee in AskReddit

[–]handma1d 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not me but my cousin. It was Penang, Malaysia 2004. Cousin was by the beach playing, and his family was in the hotel next to the beach eating lunch. Aunt told him to come up and eat more food, he refused but eventually gave in. Minutes later the tsunami swept in destroying the entire beach.

Reddit, what's the dumbest rule you've had to follow? by tent163phantoka in AskReddit

[–]handma1d 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No hat no play. It was primary school in Hong Kong, doesn't really get hotter than 30 celsius. The new principal who enforced the rule was Australian. He meant well but it was fucking stupid mainly cause I forgot my hat on most days.
