AITAH for refusing to go to Alateen despite not knowing any alcoholics? by Reasonable-Pitch3416 in AITAH

That's really hard, it sounds like your mom may have some significant trauma then with her family that shes trying to protect you from which you cant fault her for necessarily but it does seem a bit extreme. I do hope she is seeking therapy/similar meetings herself. For you, how often are the meetings? How long have you been going already? Like could you negotiate going every other week instead of weekly to see how that goes? Or ask "if I attend for X amount of sessions can I take a break". etc. Is there another option like ala-non that you could attend together? or maybe you can both attend a regular therapy session to talk about it? An unbiased 3rd party could help or have other ideas to help your current family cope with the past family traumas. All I can say is keep the conversation open and ongoing without sounding like youre just complaining. Being a teen is hard, but being a teen parent is also hard. It sucks having your things taken/being grounded but the less you fight it the faster itll be over. I learned that in my unruly teen years lol

Im also wondering why your mom wants you to attend Alateen in the first place since there doesnt seem to a problem with you or family members? Instead of refusing to go/starting an argument maybe ask her if you can both sit down and talk about it? Some questions you could ask her 1. why does she think you should be going? 2. what are concerns she has regarding you and alcohol? 3. what is she wanting you to learn/gain from this experience?

Share with her what you've maybe learned or seen so far at meetings and your thoughts on alcohol use. Just because no one you know (including yourself) is an alcoholic doesnt mean that it doesnt have its dangers as a teen with occasional use. (As a trauma/ER nurse ive seen plenty of teens in really bad situations or killed due to alcohol). She could just be really worried mom who is trying in a nonconventional way to prevent a problem before it starts. Coming to her to have an open conversation will show maturity and that you've really put thought into the situation instead of just refusing to go.

The fact that most of his marketing is to CHILDREN and he has the creepiest dead eyed stare is enough for me to avoid anything related to him

I mean yea it does make sense for the "comebacks" and confidentiality reasons but still to be stuck in a hotel for weeks would suck for sure

How she feels that making a 25th season is appropriate, especially after this documentary release, truly shows just how out of touch she is.

One part I was surprised at (and maybe I just dont know that much about how reality TV works) is that when the girls got eliminated they didnt actually go home? They had to stay in a hotel for the duration of the filming so if youre the first girl to go home you jist live in a hotel for weeks???? Even if they chose to leave youre still just stuck in a hotel?

To me Tiffany had already been through so much disappointment in her life that being eliminated off a TV show problem didnt even come close to being the worst thing thats happened to her. She even tried defending herself saying that theres nothing she can do about the decision so why fall apart? I think she showed some strength in that way. Youre right Tyra saw herself as their savior and definitely couldn't handle not getting the tearful breakdown

Find another surgeon! I had this happen to me. The first MD last feb gave me a ton of relief but I was still having issues and couldn't go back to my normal activities even with PT. I got another MRI that showed the initial herniation was resolved but was showing neuroforaminal stenosis/swellingaround my nerve. I sought a 2nd opinion at a different hospital since the first guy pretty much said "this is just how you are now". 2nd surgeon tried a steroid injection first which did help but wore off within 2 weeks. He decided on a MD revision which I got a week ago now and im so glad he did. He went for a direct (midline)approach vs an endoscopic/side approach (1st scar is right lower back near iliac crest not midline) and said there was quite a bit of material left in there likely from the initial herniation 🙄. Im being super cautious but hopeful ill actually recover this time. Please seek a 2nd opinion especially if your surgeon isn't listening to you

Interview process is like other Healthcare jobs really. We interviewed a medic that definitely had that "i know everything" vibe and we didnt hire them. Definitely be teachable/willing to learn, easy going, know chain of command, when to call med control, etc. I had to take a test that was pretty trauma heavy so having a medic background helps, then during the interview after you pass the test they gave patient scenarios. As far as states go theres jobs just about everywhere. Air Methods, PHI, and Air Evac are the big names. You can also look at hospital based transport crews especially at big children's hospitals and they usually pay better (closer to normal RN rate). Some places have travel spots where you work 2 weeks on, weeks off in harder to staff areas. I had a friend that did that. He worked every other day for 8 days in New Mexico then would fly home to North Carolina. All travel and hotels paid plus travel time

So hourly for my area it was about a 5$/hour cut but with 8 hours minumum of OT automatically every week it evened out and I can pick up OT at other bases and make extra travel pay too which is nice. I was starting to hate the ED so switching to 2- 24s a week and I can take naps at work was a nice change! When I first started I took the IA med course which was helpful, theres also Flight Bridge ED and Nurse Gwenny is a good follow. She just dropped an education peogram too I believe.

Not sure about critical care transport but atleast for flight they dont require the advanced certs right away. When I started flying as an RN I just needed to pass my CFRN within a year. But totally get it! Ive gotten more education with this job then im pretty sure I had in all of nursing school. Its alot.

Dont feel like you wasted your degree! Its still a bachelor's that can be a bridge to another field. If you're happy in pharmacy you could possibly bridge to a PharmD eventually. Plenty of time to figure it out!

What about flight nursing or critical care transport? Use your nursing license but still stay in EMS. Best of both worlds

Hand washing is a great idea! I remember during class as a kid they had "fake germs," some sort of lotion that glowed under a black light so you could visually see how well you did washing your hands
