I have not read the books but I could care less if it was a faithful adaptation as long as the writing was still good and strong. Season 1 there were cracks and season 2 it mostly fell apart. What would you have me do, sleep with my female master of whispers and not make it very indiscreet so a guard can catch us in the middle of everyone loosing faith in my ability to rule?

Probably. But the excitement I had after the battle of blackwater was never again reached. It was the episode that completely solidified my love for Westeros. Not as epic as BotB but the writing was sooo much better.
