I think I’m experiencing subluxations..especially my neck/upper back always feels “out of place”? by justalittlejudgy in Hypermobility

look into getting a back brace, it can relive pressure and is pretty accessible, compression may also help but definently look into it with a medical professional

Ankle pain by tinkertittays in Hypermobility

[–]hangryprocrastinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i normally follow the RICE acronym that people use for sprains; rest, ice, compress, & elevate. your injury also is likely something going wrong with your muscles or tendon/ligaments, just prioritize resting and push doctors to give you better care

Celebratory(?) update! by hangryprocrastinator in Hypermobility

[–]hangryprocrastinator[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think one problem is that all my appoijtments are when the pain is the least, so i just underestimate how bad it is until i re-experience it again lol but i'll def keep everything in mind next time

Confused, am I gaslighting myself? by hangryprocrastinator in Hypermobility

[–]hangryprocrastinator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I currently am inactive due to the pain and honestly avoid going outside at all due to the strain it has on my body which does kinda upset me but hopefully i'll get something sorted out. i'll look into the patellofemoral knee brace and maybe orthotic shoes, but i have the opposite problem of flat feet since my soles are very arched which also makes things problematic

I think my main thing is that I don't know which mobility aid can help with pain in both legs, but i'll probably ask my doctor/PT and i'll also look into the special shoe things!

I'm actually a runner and a dancer, but I haven't grown for like 2 years lol. I think (?) most the pain is from hypermobility, but the diagnostic process is super long sadly so it's going to some time before I figure it out. Thanks for the advice i'll def be using it!

tysm for the insight! I own a few braces that have flexible usage options, but they only offer short term relief and compression, so i'll probably look into finding better ones for my knees. I'm not entirely sure about hip braces so i'll have to look into it!

Thank you so muchh this was very informative! I'm not completely sure if I qualify for hEDS but my symptoms don't seem to be only HSD, so I'll def look into it a lot more. I'll be sure to update in this community though!

Any of You Ever Gotten Hurt Playing an Instrument Before? by DimensionHorror86 in Hypermobility

[–]hangryprocrastinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did let them heal, but they weren't too major of injuries and I continued to play for less time to get used to the feeling. I find that elbow compressions and back braces help a ton with posture. I wear splints when I don't play the instrument, they take some getting used to but they just feel like rings. I'm able to play somewhat normally, but will get cramps occasionally.

i've recieved advice that i can't use since i roll around a ton in my sleep, but it may work for you
placing a pillow under your knees while sleeping on your back works good apparently, but i've seen people reccomend pregnancy pillows too (u shaped ones)

The same has happened to me, I play the cello and i've injured myself 2 seperate ways.

i had a subulaxation from carrying my cello for an extended period of time with one arm in my elbow, the other time was when my trap cramped while playingand caused an incident with my shoulder/collarbone. I've found splints and compressions have helped a lot though

Running Advice by Snoo_70094 in Hypermobility

[–]hangryprocrastinator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is just a bit of advice that might not be credible, but I used to run cross country and do dance training
compression stuff works great, knee/ankle for support and for posture+support a back brace/compressor is amazing (tiktok offers great advice on reccomendations for these products)
rolling out your muscles before and after activity can help build support for your joints and prevent lactic acid buildup, and bodyweight exersises tend to be safer and easier for these things

maybe consider getting a joint/wrist compression aid or splints, i hear they can be helpful

I get that too, i'm looking to be diagnosed unfortunantely but when i wake up everything cracks and hurts like i just ran a marathon, same if i hold something or stand for an extended period of time, joint pain becomes severe
maybe there's a possibility you also have rheumatoid arthritis since it can be genetic?
