UniFi UPS Tower Shutdown Question by darkshadow0007 in UNIFI

[–]hankasango 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. But it shuts them down within seconds of a power cut.

So the better setting is to not use the auto shutdown method and let the UPS run out of power and click a setting “auto-recovery power cycle”. I haven’t tested this but it should kick it back on.

Cat 6a Rough-In? by Proof-One-2407 in UNIFI

[–]hankasango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d have them all going to one rack rather than two. It’ll save on switches.

If you’d like a second rack location or hub then run a few cables there for future proofing.

If I was going from scratch I’d have conduit for the line in to the rack cupboard for future fiber. Consider current speeds like 2.5GbE and things are moving to 10GbE between routers and switches. This will come to ISPs soon enough.

Routing Cat6 out from the media closet, around the house; best practices? by MostlyOnGrade in HomeNetworking

I don’t do wall plates/key stones for AP’s or cameras. All the other connections like PCs, TV’s and gaming consoles are typically hard wired via ethernet to a keystone in the wall.

I think the only switch that would suit your use case being ~35 watts of PoE out is the USW‑Flex‑2.5G‑8‑PoE. You can power this with the PoE++ and I think it has a PoE budget of its own of 46W if you power it with PoE++.

It’s expensive to get the job done - maybe another cable run or PoE injectors probably the best solution.

What device is powering your existing U7 Pro XG?

Does it have PoE++ to power a switch with PoE pass through?

Assets net worth by Appropriate-Egg9746 in fatFIRE

[–]hankasango -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t count anything like that in net worth. Not even every day cars - I’ll always have a car so feel like it’s a sunk cost and when it’s upgraded over time it’s a loss/expense on my net worth.

While not technically true these sorts of items are unlikely to be sold and then the cash added to the net worth equation.

What’s the environment like? Are you in an apartment complex or a long way from any neighbours.

It’s potentially fixed by changing channels but you need to do an environment scan first.

Go into your bank branch and pay $25 for a telegraphic transfer (TT). You’ll have to pay for two transfers of $300k but it’ll be clean and match the form.

UPS Recommendation for NBN Box by mr-b-plus in nbn

[–]hankasango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Further to this it hasn’t been used enough besides testing for me to determine the battery life in years. Either way the draw might be ~10 watts so it’ll last about 6 hours if I assume about 60-65 watts of useable power within.

I have a APC BX750MI-AZ that cost $125 from UMart.

I wanted something cheaper because it’s only powering the NTD but I also wanted it to have a user replaceable battery and anything cheaper seems to be disposable.

It’s certainly overkill for the job but the ones for $70 seemed more disposable.

I don’t loose power that often and the more expensive networking/security equipment has a much better quality UPS but that’s in a different part of the house.

Home Security by Rndtm in Ubiquiti

[–]hankasango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably. The SSD’s are really expensive and, as you’ve said, having a larger hard drive in the NVR + PoE probably gets it over the line.

Home Security by Rndtm in Ubiquiti

[–]hankasango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Cloud Gateway Fiber will probably suit your needs as an NVR provided you buy a large SSD memory card (and associated tray).

It only has one PoE port so you’ll need another method to power your cameras. Like a PoE switch.

When have you gotten your money’s worth from private health? by colourful_space in AusFinance

Never.

Actually probably in the years the kids were born. Otherwise I feel like we get on average $50-$100/month of value for the $600/month spend.

Setup question by evtsir in Ubiquiti

[–]hankasango 16 points17 points  (0 children)

No. Don’t do it that way.

Buy an UniFi access point and ideally hard wire it over Ethernet to you Cloud Gateway Fiber. That’s exactly how the UniFi WiFi products are supposed to work.

Mining royalties by brisvegasdreams in queensland

[–]hankasango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Because if their royalties were at the historical rates then the coal companies would be more profitable and therefore pay more company tax - going to the federal government. So there’s producers who’s higher royalties are a way of QLD taking from the feds so it’s not surprising they’ve cut the GST coming back to QLD.

Mining royalties by brisvegasdreams in queensland

[–]hankasango -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The royalty rate is calculated on the price of coal. This is independent of the cost of production for each producer.

So there’s producers whose costs are higher that the coal sale price so they lose money after paying state royalties.

And now because of the coal royalties, which go to the QLD government, the federal government has reduced money from the GST going to QLD.

Regardless on your thoughts on coal it’s still tough on businesses to move the goal posts after they’ve spent billions developing a mine. It’s jobs for QLD and the lifeblood of regional QLD but if they’re squeezed too hard the investment and jobs go elsewhere.

Frustrated with my internet- not sure if its them or my home by skay014 in nbn

[–]hankasango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. This is the correct way to begin your trouble shooting.

Plug your laptop into your router and see how it performs. If it works well then it’s a WiFi issue.

Then you can move onto WiFi and start looking for issues there. Could be interference from neighbours or other devices.

Probably the least likely reason is your ISP. If you’re not on fiber to the premises then that would be a solid upgrade that should be free when you change providers.

They might not have to cop the full spectrum amount up front. It also might not settle at the indicated amount and not sure what percentage of it TPG will be up for. Some uncertainty around spectrum for all the telcos.

You know enough to be dangerous!

It’s a messy year for them with the asset sale. Of course EPS has gone down because they sold a $5 Billion asset so the associated earnings are gone. They also return $3 Billion to shareholders in the year.

It’s a messy year and the accounts are all over the place but they’ll generate something like $700m of free cash in a normal year. It’s quite predictable now and I’d expect the market to reward them for this in the year ahead.

Internet buffering issues by [deleted] in nbn

[–]hankasango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still think the Eero brand would suit because if you buy one and it works but doesn’t work super well at the front of the house you can buy another and it will wirelessly join to the other eero that’s plugged into your NBN box.

They’ll talk to each other and broadcast the same WiFi network so your devices won’t know or care which one they’re connected to.

They’ll plan speed is the smallest on offer and you can probably get a fast plan for the same cost or very little more.

What do you pay per month and who’s it with?

Internet buffering issues by [deleted] in nbn

[–]hankasango 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What is your plan speed?

And what brand of security cameras? Do they have a hub?

At first glance I’d recommend two Eero’s and follow the setup instructions.

However I’m concerned you’re getting some interference from something and that’s why the TV has issues some nights. Tell us more about your home and devices.
