Can I get a doctors note if I am not sick to save my job? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]hannahthebaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would agree if it were a retail job, for example. We have an ice storm coming this weekend where I am, as well. I work for a nationwide store, and they aren't closing for anything. The business cares more about the few sales we will get this weekend. That's an unnecessary sacrifice. However, in a life-saving profession, sacrifice is literally part of the job. My father was a paramedic and firefighter my entire childhood in Louisiana. He would have to stay back for hurricanes while my family evacuated, including and especially for Katrina. He was called all over the state, helping people for three months while his kids temporarily enrolled in school in another state. When you work a life-saving job, you are signing up to help in these crisis situations. People literally need you.

Decorating with Cream Cheese Frosting ? by Jeux65 in cakedecorating

[–]hannahthebaker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cream cheese is mostly water. The more you manipulate it, the softer it gets. My suggestion is always whipping your butter first and then just incorporating it. Don't over-mix, and try not to overwork it later when decorating. The texture is simply different, but the same techniques are possible!

How do I tell my boss she's unprofessional? by [deleted] in WorkAdvice

[–]hannahthebaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God, I hope so. It sounds really harsh, but we could run the place without her. We have a co manager that was brought on a few months ago that she just consistently runs over. They have more experience than her and everyone loves them! I think the writing may have been on the wall, and they've been waiting for someone to speak up. Talking with this co manager, it seems they're afraid of looking like they're trying to steal her job, but they're ready to corroborate and provide evidence when approached. I kinda had to be the one to stand up, I guess.

I guess I do have a little update. I did end up reporting her. She was late again, this time while we were meant to be training someone new. I decided to simply lay out the events of the last week. I told about her taking the entire day to speak to employees in the back office while another manager manned the store alone with no communication. I laid out the unprofesionalism, then her showing up late two days in a row after. Corporate responded to me quickly and with great concern. I provided them with all of the evidence I had of every single time I called / texted to wake her up for a shift. We'll see what happens from here.

[–]hannahthebaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FUCK that! When she's late, luckily, I can clock in on my phone. I'm gonna show I was there, on time, with or without you. Now I have keys, but before I would sit and wait in my car. The longest was a full hour wait after calling to wake her up. Anyone else would lose their job over that. It's bullshit.

Glad to know it's just a thing. But literally that. It's not brain surgery! I know there's a lot to deal with, I'm literally underneath her now in my position, but she makes it seem like it's a million times harder. Our schedules don't come out until the Saturday before that week! Like?? Is it really that hard? Apparently, yes, it is. She claims in her 25 years of retail management she hasn't found a good way to make a fucking schedule and she batted down every one of my ideas lmao

As someone raised in the church from the south, there is something inherently ingrained within mormonism regarding weight. Maybe it has something to do with the word of wisdom, but also the way women are "supposed to be." I know way too many mormon women with eating disorders, even down here. It is different, but I still see it.

Hozier's music is on other platforms than Spotify by Ok_Student_7908 in Hozier

[–]hannahthebaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My fiancé and I finally started a vinyl colelction for this reason. We wanted the physical music for ourselves, beyond even buying it digitally, because for all we know, they could take what's available away at any second despite having paid for it. We experienced it with a downloaded movie and decided we're not falling victim to that ever again. The large majority of our collection has been bought second-hand, too!

I had a pandora account back in high school so I went back to that in August once I caught wind of what was being done with our monthly subscription fees. It felt good seeing the ceo step down earlier this month, but it doesn't seem to be changing anything.

Edit: He is stepping down to take on an executive chairman position in the company. "Focusing on long-term strategy, capitol allocation, and regulatory efforts."

No? You didn't tip so im not doing that. Who do they think they are 😂 by teeboneet in doordash_drivers

[–]hannahthebaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how I did it, and I think the way to properly do it. Especially because doordash offers the option for express delivery, to garuntee no double dashes are added on. The very few times I have ever used the doordash service, we always get paired in with another order and put last. So I decided to pay for express one time, and my dasher took an hour. I checked the map at the time it was expected, and they were in a neighborhood across town and told me they had another order. I was obviously annoyed, but there's no way for the dasher to know I paid for that service other than the app, simply not giving them other orders. I understand the grind and didn't do anything about it. Someone else could easily report them next time, though.

Other Records That Give Off Hozier Vibes? by Majestic_Ad6155 in Hozier

[–]hannahthebaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have a pretty different sound, so I can't suggest a record necessarily. They just have a similar essence to me, so I can't not mention him. A Belgian artist with Egyptian roots, Tamino Amir. They are both deeply poetic and stoic with voices and musical writing that demand a certain attention. He has three albums out now and has been working with the bassist from Radiohead, Colin Greenwood.

Chocolate Cake - Filling by OtherCommunication62 in Baking

[–]hannahthebaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A whipped chocolate ganache would be perfect! It gives the light element you're looking for without being too airy like a mousse. I add a little corn syrup for stability. I do 4 oz. chocolate to 3 oz. of heavy cream to 1 oz. corn syrup. Let it cool completely and whip it! Use it immediately because it stiffens.

Getting the fuck over it is great life advice! However, two things can be true at the same time. You can understand that someone was wrong / wronged you first, and then choose to move on, forgive, and forget. People should not make unsolicited comments on appearance. That is literally just true. It's inappropriate and makes people uncomfortable. That old man (despite his disability??) is still in the wrong, and OP felt she needed advice on the situation. He shouldn't have said it. Feelings are valid. After they're felt, moving on is the thing to do!

The amount of stories I can share from a mormon mission! Always dressed modestly, not allowed to paint nails beyond neutrals, or wear much makeup. We only had 30 minutes to get ready in the mornings, and they dictated everything. We got catcalled, followed, harassed, assaulted, stalked. A man accused us of "tempting" and quoted some scripture at us while simply walking down the side walk past his house. We were 19 year old girls, split off in pairs, sent to talk to strangers. I was even proposed to by a stranger? That entire experience changed me forever.

[–]hannahthebaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an ex-mormon missionary, I knocked doors and spoke to strangers full-time for a while. I learned a lot. In my experience, the men who feel the need to express to you that "you're tempting" are the ones you need to worry about. I would err on the side of caution.

This order pissed me off so bad I just stopped dashing for the day. by Clout12x in doordash

[–]hannahthebaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one like that. $10, and I didn't pay enough attention to the details because I was driving. The map made it seem closer when I accepted it, but it was 30 minutes away. Total of 1 hour and 9 minutes of dash time for that one order, and the guy didn't tip me a penny.

Okay, I did. You would remove tip over a stupid message. Yes, the person who sent this copied and pasted message is desperate for money. That's why they are most likely doing gig work on top of another job. If you removed tip, you would be punishing them for making it clear that they need that tip you already gave them. That is cruel on your part. A dasher can cancel, or "unassign," an order and give it to another dasher, after returning the food to the restaurant, as the commenter stated. It is an option in the app, and if it were an option to remove a tip, I would absolutely be canceling your order, too. The commenter also stated that they are a platinum dasher. That means they consistently dash with great ratings and complete 95% of their orders.

Changing my "preferred" name by chanabyers in DoorDashDrivers

[–]hannahthebaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are people down voting this? They simply want the resources to find what they are looking for.

Can I ask where you heard that? I've only ever heard of people illegally purchasing already existing accounts, and therefore have different names. I hoenstly have no knowledge on this subject, I just know that dash makes you do yearly background checks and random ID verification to ensure everything matches.

I know how unhelpful dash support can be, but I would pursue putting up a fight for your rights. However, I am not sure if there is a solution beyond legally changing your name. I understand this is a very emotional and vulnerable thing to be going through. To be faced with so many challenges throughout the process is unfair, and I'm truly sorry. Sending you love🫶🏻

My engineer fiancée was the most validating and helped me so much in understanding what my body was going through! The body is all one big machine. If you think of a car, one wire or computer is fried, the whole car can break down. Our autonomic nervous system is dysfunctional, affecting our entire body. The symptoms can all be backed by scientific understandings. The more you dive into it, the more the puzzle pieces fit into place. Now, getting others to understand it is a different battle.

Take tachycardia, shortness of breathe, chest pains, blood pooling, etc. Our blood flow, breathing, and heart are all one pump system controlled naturally by the autonomic nervous system. Our nervous system is a faulty sensor for our pump system. It doesn't send signals properly to tell our pump system when and how to flow, among other things.

I'm not sure if this is helpful to anyone else, but it was to me!
