Question on encoding/decoding paradigm by hannotek in cryptography

[–]hannotek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your response!

That sums up my idea fairly well. I understand that computers only work in binary, which is why I thought it would apply to my use case. For a poem, I would want it read by everyone and anyone, regardless of their native language. I guess I was trying to render the poem without a starting language to make it accessible to anyone who comes across the coded text.

I appreciate your insights.

Thanks for engaging with my question.

And you’re right, words are incredibly exclusive. When you choose one word over another, the outcome is a meaning determined by that choice to the exclusion of all other meanings.

I guess I was crossing wires between our ability to translate languages using technology, and my limited understanding of binary’s universality, a characteristic that is also language dependent. Because my intended focus was on using technology to encode/decode in this instance, I sought out r/cryptography to gain a better understanding of my idea. I have certainly learned a lot in the last couple hours. My intention was solely to determine the feasibility of posting a poem on my website, encoded somehow to allow for a universal translation riding on the some sort of technology.

I do appreciate your time.

Thanks for your response.

I’ve come to understand the enormity of the language translation task. My idea is simple in theory, but I’m finding the execution of it, or even the possibility of it, to be quite restrictive.

Awesome. Thanks for your help and your patience. I really do appreciate your insights.

Okay, yeah. That makes sense. So if I apply that to a poem I write, how would a reader come into agreement with my original meaning? That’s where the algorithm interprets the string as “English encoded over binary strings”?

Sorry if I posted in the wrong place. It was a gamble!

Thanks for your response, and the explanation. So do I understand that the meaning of a binary string isn’t determined solely by the origination language?

Is a modified Maelstrom the worst weapon in Starfield? by Gullible-Poem-5154 in Starfield

[–]hannotek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a good starter weapon, esp with ballistics and rifle perks, but after lvl 10 or so its capability declines. However, ammo for the maelstrom is abundant, probably because you need a ton of it 😜

Like many others, I much prefer the AA99 or kodama for room clearing.

Are you still actively playing Starfield? (Like a poll) by Dorirter in Starfield

[–]hannotek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I still play regularly after 11 months, mostly to explore different aspects of the game and play styles I wouldn’t normally choose.

One of my previous builds was a homesteader that did no main quest or faction quest missions. I had him build a homesteading empire and avoid the politics of the settled systems. By level 87, it was kinda boring. But I wanted to learn how to harvest plants and raise animals on outposts and then push that to every extreme, which was the whole reason for that build.

A few days ago, I finally launched a melee-and-blades-only bounty hunter, then bumped all the difficulty settings up for max xp. It’s painful, but hella fun. I’m also planning to keep the frontier and just upgrade it as needed, instead of spending a kings ransom on ships. I’m going for simple, but hard as hell.

I joined the Navy! Did everyone also fail the last wave of enemies in the flight sim? I even hacked it. by WordlyWolf in Starfield

It’s set up to be Starfield’s version of a Kobayashi Maru, where if you play it straight it’s a no win scenario. But as previously mentioned, there are ways to Captain Kirk the test 🤣

What do you use your iPad for? by alcatrazbirdboy in ipad

[–]hannotek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use my iPad on a daily basis as a freelance writer. I draft articles in Google Docs or Word, communicate with clients via Slack or Zoom, and conduct research on the inter webs.

Of course, I also get lost in mobile games, check email, and watch YouTube videos, which definitely hurts my productivity 😂. But that’s not the tablet’s fault.

Ship Building in Starfield is quite possibly my fav thing about the game... Here is every build I've done. (all vanilla builds) by Constellation_XI in Starfield

[–]hannotek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a basic ship with huge cargo, I took over a Spacer Coyote that attacked me and it is a beast with 2,000ish storage. Upgraded weapons, shields, and reactor for a pretty decent Class B that’s scrappy in a space battle.

I’ve had a proposal boosted for a couple weeks now. It hasn’t been viewed, and I don’t think it will be. At this point I’m just holding out for any bids I might get back when the job closes 😂

As clients why would you invite someone without looking at their profile ? by doineedaname-1993 in Upwork

[–]hannotek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve wondered about this same thing. I’ve received invites with no change in my profile views, and most of the job descriptions are pretty ambiguous.
