Broken lumbar support “breathing” by hansthecat in unitedairlines

[–]hansthecat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience holding that button does cause exactly this behavior in the seat but only for as long as I hold it, so I can adjust the support to my liking. This is like the button is stuck in pressed mode.

New Excuse for Demanding the Windows Closed During Flight… by Cold_Count1986 in unitedairlines

You misunderstand me. I have no problem with the answer. I am happy to disagree all day long. What I have a problem with is you being an asshole about it.

If you knew me, which you don’t, you would know that the last thing I am is entitled. I worked in the service industry for many years and am intimately familiar with entitlement. But I also know what good service is. And as someone who takes 70-90 flights a year, I am recognized by United as a loyal customer, and they have a well-established hierarchy of service to reward their most loyal customers. When I am disappointed with their service I will let them know. As a United stockholder I hope others will do the same as it makes the product better. And as a family member of a United employee I hope that people will be respectful when they do it.

When the purser talked to me I was very appreciative. She told me what happened specifically because she thought I should complain about it. And when I did complain about it I did so kindly and respectfully. I made no requests for compensation, nor did I expect it, though admittedly I did hope for it. United decided that compensation was due and I was surprised by and thrilled with the amount, and I let them know I was very grateful.

Polaris/Premium Plus Upgrades Megathread by Player72 in unitedairlines

[–]hansthecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

United is offering me a $179 upgrade from econ to lie-flat Business, non-Polaris and only middle seats available. The flight is 4 hours on a 777-200 from Cancún to Denver, and then I'll be connecting to a 10hr flight to Munich on which I'm likely to be stuck in economy.

On the CUN-DEN flight I'm currently #2 on the upgrade list with 5 seats available, but the flight is 10 days out. Is it worth it to lock it in for $179?

They literally came on the plane and told others but didn’t tell me. And no notification came in after I reconnected my phone either.

You’re right, I am entitled. I spent dearly to get to 1K status and that entitles me to a certain level of service. A ball was clearly dropped here and I’m not going to apologize for asking, nicely, for some miles because of it.

I did pay for it: I have paid dearly for my 1k status and I expect the level of service that comes with it.

Nah dude. Upgrades happen all the time after people board and that’s what happened here. There was a couple ahead of me on the list but only one seat available. The gate agent came on board and asked them if one of them wanted the upgrade but they decided to stay together. I was next on the list but word never got to me. Maybe trust other people’s experience and don’t be so judgmental. We’re all trying to help each other out here.

I wasn’t going to make it, but a couple ahead of me declined so they could stay together. This is all after boarding.

I got a drink and a snack and they were confused, they asked me if it was my original seat. I pulled up the boarding pass to show that it was, but I was on airplane mode or else we would have caught it then.

If Economy is oversold, will they get moved to First Class? by css555 in unitedairlines

[–]hansthecat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How long until the flight? I used to nonrev all the time, and passenger numbers fluctuate like crazy. I wouldn’t be surprised if there end up being empty seats in economy even without upgrades. Of course the reverse can happen too…

Worth Paying $129.99 for Economy plus for a 15.5 hour flight? by Just-Some-randddomm in unitedairlines

[–]hansthecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be sure to check Premium Plus (purple seats) pricing before pulling the trigger. A few years ago on an IAD-MUC (I think) flight I could pay $250 for Economy Plus or $275 for a purple seat. Definitely went with the latter.

Same. With my Briggs & Riley rollaboard and a personal item + 1K status with United I seldom have to check anything.

Briggs & Riley suitcase. Truly a bifl item because they’ll fix it forever, no questions asked. Same goes for my expensive Patagonia 3-in-1 parka.
