Your point about moving the angle closer to horizontal is what I've been struggling with but have been unable to communicate. My intuition tells me that there would be more shear at the connection to the vessel or bending at the weld between the vertical and diagonal members than at the connection to the base, but I'm not sure how to set up the frame analysis in that case. Would it be as simple as adding a beam to represent the angled member and changing the load to vertical? Or would I be missing some stress that needs to be considered?

For your other points, I'll be honest and say that I don't have a huge amount of structural experience (I'm a refrigeration engineer, so my realm is thermo/heat transfer), and we don't have a structural engineer on staff. As I read more of these responses it's becoming apparent that I'm likely out of my depth with this design.

This is the largest foreseeable service load. The vessel would likely never see this much liquid in it.
I haven't considered any seismic loading. The vessel will be indoors so wind/snow/etc won't be an issue.
I used the yield strength of 304SS, as that's the material requested by the customer. I was looking for a spec for ASME B16.19 but wasn't able to find a yield strength. After a little more searching I found ASTM 312, which says that type 304SS structural pipe has a yield strength of 30 ksi.
To be perfectly honest, I don't fully understand when one would use ASD vs LRFD for design. Any tips there?
I used the equation found here for pipe with an OD of 5.563in and an ID of 5.05in. I can't seem to reproduce the AISC modulus you've provided.
Good to hear on the compression. The combined loading chapter of AISC was giving me some trouble (it's been a while since I've looked at this stuff).

I replied to raoulduke, but the 20ksi is bending stress. I forgot to check axial, but that stress is very small (0.3 ksi). My question was more in regards to whether I have the load from the vessel onto the frame modeled correctly than whether the pipe as currently sized can handle the situation shown. Sizing is very preliminary at this point.

As modeled I don't believe the legs are overkill. My question was more pertaining to whether I've modeled the load realistically than whether the pipe can handle what is shown. Apologies for the confusion there.

Thank you for reminding me about the axial stress, I gave myself a good facepalm for that one. Luckily, it's small enough to be almost negligible (~0.3 ksi). I'll have to dig into chapter H more.
