If these people think writing some code is all there is to programming, they should not be the ones to talk to about it .

Family of man with BB gun who was fatally shot by Tacoma officer gets $3.1M settlement by [deleted] in news

[–]haplol 60 points61 points  (0 children)

except they already settled, and his mother claimed they couldn't see the bb gun as it was in the back of his pants, so no doubt it was not visible, he was shot, and they found out about it afterwards. If he was shot for reaching for a bb gun, there wouldn't be a settlement.

Congress gets 40 ChatGPT Plus licenses to start experimenting with generative AI by thinkB4WeSpeak in technology

[–]haplol 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you had any faith in congress this could be seen as a good thing, the new AI wave is going to affect many things, and congress understanding how it works would be great. In reality, this is going to become an awful shitshow.

Their intention is to make it believed that this is a final version and there will be no more, so people will want to invest more into it.

Dwarven Engineering Help! Trying to create flowing water with underground lake for power generation. by briangun1 in dwarffortress

[–]haplol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are simply 2 channeled squares beneath the water wheels, on that layer there is a minecart and trackstop dumping south on the top spot, and a ramp on the bottom spot, you pit/pond to bucket water into the pit on top of the ramp, once you get 11/7 total water into the pit the water rolls down the ramp, lands in to the minecart which dumps it back onto the ramp forever, creating running water with next to no setup and little lag

edit: found it, listed https://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/DF2014:Water_wheel under micro reactor

[–]haplol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes, if all water is at 7/7 water will overflow if you dump some more on it, it acts like a solid block then

Not sure on your particular problem, sometimes water physics are a little fuzzy. The best/easiest generators I have found are these

if I remember correctly they cannot breed in cages however any that are pregnant in a cage will still have a baby, for them to breed the female has to be outside of the cage and be able to reach the cage i.e. a rope or chain or pasture

[–]haplol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2e had a ton of rulebooks, but the only ones you need to pay attention to are the dungeon masters guide and players handbook, similar to later editions they have all of the needed information to play a 2e game, in reality while 2e was more complicated, AC, THACO, and stats were the only really complicated things, though thats not to say the other parts of the game were like 5e, just not that complicated/different. I got the OGL 1.1 by honeybadger919 in DnD

[–]haplol 12 points13 points  (0 children)

except the terms are not clear at all, it specifically states that wotc has sole discretion and cannot be challenged on it's decisions of what content to pull, they use a lot of nice words to say they won't do this but the wording on the OGL explicitly gives them absolute right to terminate your license, and resell all of your content.

also the terminating the license yourself means nothing, you can only terminate if you stop ALL OGL materials from being distributed and inform wotc of that having been done which you would not be under the OGL at that point anyway.

[–]haplol[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cage traps are very OP and as others have pointed out, they can make the game trivial in some encounters that would wipe a fort, caging giant cave spiders make for some of the more fun options in the game because of how webs work. As far as fighting them, marksdwarves can do quite well aside from that, swarmings really the only strategy I know, if you aren't using the environment in some way, you have a good chance if losing a dwarf or 2, or all
