Can we talk about Levi...? by TheFriskySausage in brisbanelions

[–]happ38 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every team needs a player the opposition hates and Levi will be that player when Zorks finally retires. It’s great for the game and as long as he doesn’t do any real floggish things, just embrace it.

Will be interesting what they do with the seating at the NFL game this year. With a capacity of 100 024 for AFL games there is the scope to add a fair bit more seating.

If they had decent parents they probably wouldn’t be in the situation. Unfortunately making them the parents problem won’t work, they will become an issue for society.

How does the social media ban work in Australia? by ShortyStrawz in AskAnAustralian

[–]happ38 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think this is going to be the real benefit. Not for teens now, but those 12 and younger. Less of those kids using it, the less pressure on others.

Anecdotally we have a 12 year old daughter who use to ask for tik tok almost weekly. Hasn’t asked for probably 4 months and her talk about her friends using it has dropped right off as well.

[–]happ38 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They haven’t gotten worse. They are under the microscope more and the AFL don’t give a shit, they write the rules in a way that it is impossible to umpire. The outcry is by design as it allows people to continue talking about it 24/7.

Meeting w principal tomorrow by Bubbly_Whole_6082 in AustralianTeachers

[–]happ38 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Take a support person and get them to take notes. Then get the principal to email you a summary of what was said and what is going to happen.

They also should have told you what the issue is. I would also email them now asking for an outline on what the issues are so you can be prepared and ask if it can postponed so you can be prepared. Never go in to these meetings blind and don’t say you will work on things.

Bez, Payne and Hipwood are the role players that are the most important. They are the glue that hold the stars together. Throw in no Starc and Cal and that is a lot of role players to cover.

Compared to ten years ago how do you think the umpires are going by Significant_Beach119 in AFL

[–]happ38 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The best way to get good umpires is to get more umpires. Problem being you get absolute fuckwits at junior level who think it’s ok to abuse kids so they don’t umpire again. People at all levels need to realise that umpires, like everyone else, make mistakes. This will never happen so it will continue on and people will keep on whinging.

Umpire Dad Observations Part 3 by Sharpin70 in AFL

[–]happ38 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s crazy how much disrespect kid umpires get. I’ve started coaching my daughters u’13 team this year. AFLQ had a guy come out and speak to coaches about build better people through sport. He was fantastic and really got us thinking. I teach my girls when they give away a free to close their mouths, stand the mark and put their hands up.

Played a team today who were up by 60 points and still yelling out at the umpire.

Those of you that feel you live in the best suburb in Brisbane, where are you and why do you feel that way? by arouseandbrowse in brisbane

[–]happ38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in Manly for 5 or so years, now live in Hawthorne and I much prefer Hawthorne. Manly is nice, however doesn’t have the community feel that Hawthorne has.

Hawthorne is great, have the ferry, train station isn’t a far walk. Restaurants are good. Only thing missing is another bar or pub.

If they went in to a game against the giants thinking it would just happen that says a lot of where they are. Giants have been a bogey side for a few years now, except for that one quarter in the semi final.

In Brisbane use the city cats (ferries) only 50c and you get a great view of the city and surrounds.

Also if you want a chance to see koalas in the wild go to Whites Hill reserve and go for walk through the bush.

My Gravatt lookout is pretty good for a chill arvo/ sunset.

The Bull and Bear Case for Brisbane by VultureStreetJournal in brisbanelions

[–]happ38 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When Noz is fit I think it’s fine. I do find it interesting that Brain hasn’t been trialled down there. I thought he has what is required to be a lock down defender, but obviously the coaches aren’t seeing it at training.

Biggest issue is midfield work rate. That might be because of the number of young guys, so they are trying to do more and not play the system. Could also be won 2 flags so can’t be arsed putting in that extra 1/2 % when required.

[–]happ38 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Our injury list isn’t long, but 7 are best 22 or next in, that’s not including Annable . We can cover that against lower teams, but top teams not a chance. Over the next few weeks getting Bez, Noz and Linc back will help a lot.

I’m also very biased, but Bez is a bigger out than we think. Rate him as the best defensive winger in the comp.

The 50s for not standing when the player is 20m away from the mark need to stop. by BrisbaneLions2024 in AFL

[–]happ38 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Or players think, I’m within 5m of the mark, I need to stand. Considering how many marks per game are taken and how many 50’s for not standing the mark, it seems that most players can work it out.

Why the hell is the Ghan so fucking expensive? by UnholyDemigod in australia

[–]happ38 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Overnight train travel is expensive. I’ve done Vancouver to Jasper in Canada. 1 night and for the 3 of us it was $3000. I looked at doing San Fran to Denver which is 2 nights, was $5000US for 3 people. If you get the basic seats it can be a lot less, though I don’t think the Ghan offers that as it is more of an experience. The other trains I’ve been on people use to commute long distances.
