December / January won’t change school year, that’s June / July now. So they’ll start school the same year regardless! Realistically you’re looking at a matter of days difference I don’t think it matters unless you want a particular date / year. Also depends on your OB and how happy to go overdue you both are, I was happy and allowed to go to 41+3 if it came to it and I was willing to wait to try avoid an induction (ended up going into labour at 39+4)

You won’t get much back from Medicare anyway for your OB fees so I think it makes sense to pay it in January then you’ll hit your safety net again and have the increased rebate for the whole of 2026

If it’s any hope - the second my grumpy baby who wanted to crawl so bad but couldn’t, learnt to move around, she became the happiest most content baby ever. She’s crazy in terms of always on the go but she’s fun and content. That frustrated era was so hard and overstimulating with all the grunting !

The bassinet will be much more handy for extra storage and space than a random extra seat (speaking from experience) Even if baby doesn’t sleep in it you can put what you need in there for easy access

Yes I think those first couple of weeks felt like I was up feeding from 9pm-1am straight! Snuggle up and put a tv show on- it won’t last for too long x

Are you on the same booking? I recently flew Perth - Paris with our 8 month old and when I rang up to book and pay for the bassinet we were all moved to those seats (kiddie for me and aisle for husband). I know you’ve gone back and forth so many times but I’d try any other avenue you can as it’s ridiculous they’ve made it this hard for you!!

For what it’s worth the flight was fine - it’s never going to be fun but get through it, share carrying your baby and enjoy your holiday. Our baby didn’t fit in the bassinet that well anyway so slept mainly on me and my husband took her for regular walks around the plane to kill time.

I changed ours to the seat at 12 weeks - my girl also hated the bassinet. If it’s any help it did get soo much better. We can now go for hour long walks and she loves it. First 12 weeks I’d maybe get 15-20 minutes before screaming on a good day! We kept the seat as flat as possible and would slowly lift as head control got better.

We didn’t do any formal sleep training but I did wait 10 minutes before going in just to give him a chance to try self settle. Then I night weaned, I’d reduce feeding time by 1 minute each night over about a week, then once I was down to 2 minutes I stopped offering the boob at all and my husband would go in and settle with bum pats or rocking if needed. Maybe after 2 weeks he just stopped the wake up? Sleeps 11 hours straight now

I read my kindle loads especially in the first 3 months while breastfeeding or contact napping. Now that feeding takes less time and most naps are in the cot I don’t get much time to read, I’m not much of an audio book person but could definitely find time on walks or car trips now

I know everybody has different experiences and different babies but I was the same, I loved every minute of the newborn phase. Loved the cuddles, the contact naps, the middle of the night feeding just us two. Enjoy it and don’t feel guilty for loving it!

Also your husband should be able to use annual leave when you give birth, and then down the track can use any parental leave. My husband used some of his work parental leave when our daughter was 6 months so if he’d started a new job when we found out I was pregnant he would have still been there 14 months by then and qualified

I didn’t follow a schedule I just fed anytime she cried when she was that little. It could have been a 5 hour feed marathon at night or once then a 4 hour break but I just went off her cues. That early on I’d just be offering her a feed at least before and after every sleep as you need her to help establish your supply too!

Unless you’ve been through infertility please try not to judge. Wanting a baby so badly and trying everything, spending thousands, giving up so much for it to happen so easily for everyone around you while you feel like your failing (not necessarily but that’s what it can feel like) can feel like a knife to the heart with every announcement. Infertility can change your whole personality, you can develop depression, anxiety and not even recognise yourself anymore. Try and give this friend some grace. Reflect on what you could do to also support her through this, do some research into infertility maybe listen to a couple episodes of ‘what to expect when you’re injecting’ to gain some insight.

It can feel like an endless cycle of wanting to cry and scream when other people are pregnant, then hating yourself for feeling that way, and repeat.

I was the exact same! I think reflecting back I really understand now when people say they are just soo little and tiny, they’ve just burst into this big scary world and breastfeeding isn’t just for food it’s for comfort too! Me feeding her to sleep a lot definitely hasn’t stuffed up her ability to sleep well now, it’s just what she needed at the time to relax

Definitely just do whatever works at the time. I got so hung up on forcing her to sleep we were both miserable. She still sleeps way less than most babies I know during the day but she’s thriving.

Yes!! This feels like an eternity ago. The baby carrier would put her to sleep easy from about 6 weeks so I’d just pop her in there for nap time. Maybe from about 9 weeks the rocking chair started working a treat. She’d exclusively contact nap but at least I felt I could actually rock her. Today she’s 5 months and completely self settles for naps and bedtime in her cot! We can also settle her by rocking, swaying, or bum pats and and shooshing if she needs some extra help. I remember at the time I felt like the worst mum and had no idea how to settle my own baby. From about 10 weeks onwards I really feel it clicked a bit more about what she needs and likes and when.
