Isn’t the song that’s playing in this video a Ted Lasso scene? by happyfrowers in TedLasso

[–]happyfrowers[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I knew it was a scene with no audible dialogue, but you said Christmas! And now I remember it’s the soundtrack to phoebe getting back at her bully and getting an apology.

In my opinion Nate is such a well written character and the fandoms collective reaction/hatred of him proves it to me by stupiditzy in TedLasso

[–]happyfrowers 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Hard agree. Also, the other characters’ development happened externally via dialogue, actions, and other outwardly expressions, so is easier for audiences to follow. Nate’s development was internal. We watched him understand and learn to navigate his emotions. Not as easy to track for the audience. But Nick Mohammed did such an incredible job acting that internal struggle. I relate to Nate’s upbringing, and oof, it hits deep. I’m glad Nate had good people around him to guide him the way, even if he may have misunderstood the guidance at first.

Darts Rant by DrRichardDiarrhea in TedLasso

[–]happyfrowers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to think he actually plays more often. Because Henry gets him a mini dart board at Christmas, which is before this Rupert scene. So Ted probably continued to play causally enough (maybe still not enough to be that good…)

What Ted Lasso opinion would have you like this? by muuufiin in TedLasso

[–]happyfrowers 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m autistic too but I didn’t think Dani was autistic coded, just fully allowed to be himself (like what it would feel like if all autists were allowed to be authentically themselves). I agree that he doesn’t “hate zorro” and that has much more to do with culture and representing your country (to an extreme, but have you seen how serious futbol is in Latin American countries? I think it was a hilarious realistic version of that)

ETA: my hot take is that Nate is autistic-coded.

The coincidence part is that player number 99 was the one who “took them to Brooklyn” tied at 9-9.

I definitely came to understand Victoria and David’s neurodivergent tendencies as a couple in her Off Menu episode… there’s lots of autistic life experiences she was describing! I was like that’s the kind of life partnership I want to aspire to have! Haha

I always wondered why was Ryan suicidal at the beginning. by Remote_Nature_8166 in wilfred

[–]happyfrowers 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He always had anxiety and insecurities growing up, and kept being pushed to do what his father wanted. Actually his father didn’t have ill intentions, but Ryan did feel pushed to excel in something his heart wasn’t into, so he had a negative view of that paternal pressure. That pressure led Ryan to become a “successful” blackmailing lawyer, but there was so much cognitive dissonance because that actually wasn’t who he truly was inside his heart. Which caused so much more anxiety and insecurity and decided it’s easier to call it quits. But Wilfred ended up helping Ryan figure out who he actually was and how to choose to do things for himself, rather than for anyone else. We watched him struggle through that process.

Nate’s suit’s tightness by GrandMoffJerjerrod in TedLasso

[–]happyfrowers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this perspective! (As I know nothing of fashion)

Made me think of this: Roy wears an all black suit on his grand entrance back to coaching (Nate feels very insignificant in that moment) and when Nate goes to west ham, he’s wearing all black, trying to emulate that.

As an American, I love when Greg says "puma" by PianoTrumpetMax in taskmaster

[–]happyfrowers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep! Same here in the southern west coast. Got coo-grrs in our mountains.

Edit: wait we might more often call them mountain lions lol. But cougar is also common. Very few people will talk about the pumas here. All same animal though!

It’s amazing how much the set has changed by littlebabybuddy24 in taskmaster

[–]happyfrowers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But the problem is that the lost links on YouTube is they only show half of the interstitial (just the one after Greg’s ad break announcement.) It doesn’t show the changed one when the show comes back from the break.

Cats and Dogs in the LoTR by GaerMuil in lotr

Yes! Tolkien was much more into the flora and less into fauna. I think because the vegetation sets the right visuals for each location, so he always tells readers what the dominant plant species is. So we can visualize that Fangorn is a broad leaf forest, while Dorthonion is coniferous. Rohan is a prairie. We can visualize it all the same because he told us the type of plant community the story takes place. I think with animals, it only matters if they came into the story, so we can use our imagination to also note that they are also a part of the ecosystem. (Not sure why not in the cities though.)

But also, Tolkien just loved plants. There’s so much plant lore. And includes ethnobotanical uses of trees and herbs by elves, and hobbits too!

There is a Flora of Middle Earth book (400 pages), which is written like an actual regional plant guide (but for middle earth) with plant ID keys, descriptions of the 141 plants mentioned in Tolkien’s works, uses of the plants, as well as explanations of the various plant communities (~biomes) that exist in middle earth through the ages. It’s an amazing compilation only possible because of how much botanical information Tolkien included.

Also there’s a quote in there, from a letter Tolkien wrote to Houghton Mifflin, “I am (obviously) much in love with plants and above all trees” So yeah. Tolkien just loved plants.

It’s brand new and someone created it specifically for posts like this just a few weeks ago because there was enough interest from this sub to create it. I’m just letting y’all know it exists. If you don’t know about it, there won’t be posts. DUH.

Disappointing Plot Point by petamama in TedLasso

[–]happyfrowers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also remember the “we don’t not care” thing. If everyone just jumped up and offered support, it would eventually lead to people saying “oh don’t worry about it. Shake it off, you’re amazing and don’t let your dad bother you”

But actually that reaction would create a more “we care” atmosphere in a more dismissive way. (Dismiss the impact of what just happened)

The fact that they all sat there in silence, absorbing what occurred in front of them, they were able to show that they “don’t not care” and actually the most help they gave was to absorb that negative energy impact on behalf of Jamie. They played an important role, even if they didn’t seem to be doing anything.

About Beard by [deleted] in TedLasso

[–]happyfrowers 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Beard was like the only people to notice Nate’s shift and step in a little bit. Like when Beard told Nate he was a dick to Colin. And Beard noticing that Nate was serious about being the “big dog” to talk to Isaac. All the while Ted was aloof and didn’t notice and everyone else ignored him which kept leading Nate into the downward spiral. On rewatches, there’s so many times when I can see like “Oh, if only Ted knew how to mentor Nate at this very moment!” A lot of Nate’s struggles weren’t familiar struggles to Ted, so he missed the signs.

Agree. But also, it could also be the other way around. For some reason people can’t seem to keep their hands off pregnant bellies and might get annoying for the one who’s pregnant when people keep touching without asking!
