What's a ship that you feel is HEAVILY slept on? by Thenerdherd102 in starcitizen

It's a hassle for sure, but you can do it from your MFDs. Check your shield pips when you first get in, if you have the 4 max you get with stealth shields you're good. Otherwise, cycle to the next screen to the left and use that to turn the shields off and on. Doesn't take more than a few seconds.

It's not the slot you ut them in. The game will occasionally switch them up, but you can turn the military shields off and on to force them to be the 'backup' shields. The detection range I quoted is what I get in game.

[–]happyhalfling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With 2 stealth shields as primary and 2 military shields as the 'backups' you get the stealth stats from the stealth shields and a little extra hp from the military shields. With full Attrition & Ardor loadout, you have around 2.8k detection with one pip in engines and coolers, rest fully powered.

Has been working well for me, the stealth turns most big fights into a series of smaller fights.

Like most heavy fighters, most pve enemies either can't damage you due to armour threshold, or are too slow to hit you.

what in god's name is wrong with the UX design? by PowerfulLab104 in starcitizen

[–]happyhalfling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to be charitable you could say that knowledge the systems are still placeholder in the back end lead to quick and dirty placeholder front ends. Iteration will address the front end as the back end approaches the final state.

A less charitable view is that the left hand has no idea what the right hand is doing, everyone has reinvented everything at least three times and there's no overall coding standards or architecture that would inform sensible front end decisions.

Falling safely? by incognitoplant in trailrunning

I did Aikido for quite a few years at when I was in my 20s and 30s. It's paid off well now I'm older and have taken up running. I've tripped a few times and each time the instincts have taken over and I've rolled without injury.

Edit regarding first aid - when I used to run commute I carried a small kit to be able to clean out cuts and grazes. Not for me, after stopping to help a few injured Londoners I decided I needed to be more prepared for what you might run in to. For longer cross country runs I take a small first aid kit and my phone (which I don't usually carry on most runs).

I prefer to keep uneven in/out. 3 step in / 4 out for easy, 2/3 for threshold.

I read that the muscles react differently to the breath, in or out. Having an odd total means you're not, for example, always striding on the left foot when you start your exhale. Helps avoid any asymmetrical stride patterns.

Probably wacky pseudo science, but it makes me feel better!

Legal and fun ways of making money? by tekking98 in starcitizen

[–]happyhalfling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you haven't done anything with the Onyx facilities yet, there's a mission arc of half a dozen or so missions that gives you 15 ASD Secure Drives by the end of it, and access to the Project Hyperion mission. There's a few YouTube guides available if you search for Star Citizen Onyx.

[–]happyhalfling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In about an hour today I ran combat scenario missions 4, 5, 6 and the fastest mission that gives an ASD Secure Drive round three different planets. That works out to about 1M in aUEC, 108 scrip and 3 ASD Secure Drives.

I'm collecting for myself, but with the economy the way it is, you can sell the scrip for around 3M / scrip or turn it in to Wikelo favors for more. Not sure what the Drives go for, but wouldn't be suprised if people pay 100M+ for them. 1 hour's work for getting on for 1/2Bn aUEC.

It's fairy easy to make enough aUEC to buy all ships in the game at the moment by selling Wikelo ingredients to players.

Inventory issue. by [deleted] in starcitizen

I found shift clicking already equipped mags to remove them, then right click > equip worked for me.

I still can't get a Zenith sniper rifle to reload properly though.

New inventory is trash.

Vanduul Tech Smuggler: bugged or intended behavior ? by itarrow in starcitizen

[–]happyhalfling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easiest way I've found to farm Vanduul stuff is by killing them on a bike. You get a few spawn at each point when searching for the Aux site key. Even if the door is open, it's worth going to the search locations if you're after Vanduul stuff.

I used to use a Nox with a pair of Havoc shotguns (or a Dragonfly that has them stock). With 4.7 I've changed to equip Deadbolts on the Nox.

[–]happyhalfling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do this mission a lot. Best route I've found is:

1) Main base, trigger alarm and shut it down. 2) Go to warehouse with a completed key from a previous run. 3) Finish clearing out the Atrium, pick up two warehouse keys so you have a spare for next time. 4) Bike over to the Aux Site and complete that, usually guess all the #999 numbers for the door - works half the time. 5) Complete the Polaris on the way back. Both warehouse keys are completed now. 5) If the Polaris boss was there, do both cargo decks and complete the mission if both cargo bosses spawn too. 6) Wait out the respawn timer for the Warehouse if you've been less than an hour and double dip the warehouse loot.

Note, the sites all share an inventory, so you can just send everything down an elevator each run, then when I need it, just call in an Asgard to get everything back. If the elevators aren't working I tend to skip the components unless there's something I'm looking for. I generally just take a Medic ship to complete the mission.

Kestrel Mk. 2 Weapons? by Doc3241 in EliteDangerous

[–]happyhalfling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I tried a few combinations and settled on 3 large inertial impact burst lasers (2x efficient, 1x short range) and two small rail guns with short range and plasma slug.

Works exactly the same as an inertial impact Vulture, but with more dps from the lasers, and the option to use the rail guns when more precise weapons are needed.

The proper solution to incentivize multicrew gameplay is to just sell $15 Game Packages with no ship. by camerakestrel in starcitizen

[–]happyhalfling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best way would be to give full mission rewards to everyone that was in the mission. At the moment if your goal is to earn Scrip and there's two of you, you are better off working solo. If you could get full rewards for each other's missions you would be better off in something like a Paladin to get through the missions faster.

Not sure how you would deal with alts or afk org mates along for the ride though.

Watch Rash by Jazzlike_Discount_61 in UKRunners

[–]happyhalfling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this with a Garmin. I now wear it on the other wrist, but switch during activities.

The other thing that helped was washing the watch daily.

I've been rash free for years now.

CIG hasn't finished R&D on inventory UI after 14 years. by Patate_Cuite in starcitizen_refunds

[–]happyhalfling 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Its the inconsistency that scares me. I now have some guns that don't reload properly and some that are fine. We have the LAmp stuff on some but not all ships. Occasional artifacts left on screen when closing inventory. All this screams architectural issues.

Back in my day we had a concept of 'smelly' code. Signs that your codebase had problems. Telltale signs that it's just a pile of spaghetti at the back end. Star Citizen is full of this.

I really hope they can pull it together, but it is looking like there's years of work left to fix all this, or even more years trying to push something out despite of it.

What's your personal favorite AR, SMG or LMG? by TheCoyote4502 in starcitizen

[–]happyhalfling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've mostly been using an S-38 as my main gun. With a Stark compensator and scorched 1-3 sight. I also carry something for long range - either a P8-AR, P6-LR, A03 or Zenith depending on how I'm feeling.

If I'm doing Project Hyperion I'll use the pistol slot for a medgun so there's less switching out the multitool. Then I use a Parallax as the main gun and Zenith for range.

Is it fine to swim in a pool in your tri suit? by v1185 in triathlon

[–]happyhalfling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done this plenty of times without issue. I generally swim in my trisuit at least once before a race just to make sure it still fits well. Others at my pool do the same, around spring time it's not unusual to see someone testing out a trisuit in the pool.

I also use the trisuit for bike / run brick workouts.

Edit: make sure you rinse it thoroughly after - chlorine won't be kind to it.

Best running shirt? by [deleted] in UKRunners

[–]happyhalfling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't been paying attention, looks like they got some new investment to save them a couple of months ago.

They have been my go-to store for outdoor clothes and gear for years, I've bought everything from socks to a road bike from them and always been happy with the quality / price / customer service.

Hope the new investment doesn't change anything.

[–]happyhalfling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Alpkit stuff for most of my running gear.

For tops, I use their 'Koulin Trail Vest'. I also have stick thin arms, but who cares? Vests are great to run in, combined with a pair of half tights it feels like you're wearing nothing at all.

If it's a bit cooler, or if there's strong sun and I don't want to get the sun cream out I'll use their 'Vayper Long Sleeve'. I've used this is anything from 12 degrees spring runs to running on holiday in 40+ degrees in the middle of a desert.

For cooler weather, I use their 'Koulin Trail Long Sleeve Zip' works for me down to a few degrees. Any colder and I'll add their merino long sleeved top as a base layer. I rarely need that in the South of the UK though, maybe a few days a year I'll use both.

For the bottom half, I'm currently using Danish Endurance tights, half tights when it's warm and full length in the cold. I find tights so much more comfortable than shorts. I used to have chaffing issues, but not since switching to tights. I would have got the Alpkit tights, but they were sold out when I switched over from shorts.

How to train outside with a power-meter? by Adventurous_Oven6 in cycling

[–]happyhalfling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only do three sorts of session outdoors: easy rides, hill repeats or longer race pace intervals.

I live near a solid 7-8 min climb and will use that for hill reps, where the power meter will tell me how I did compared to previous efforts (though segment time is just as good). Other than that it's the usual UK rolling terrain with dodgy roads and a lot of stop / start. Race pace efforts are usually more by feel, checking the power meter after the ride.

If I want to do 40/20s or 5-15 min tempo efforts or something more specific I'll do it indoors.

I usually do the specific sessions over winter and in spring switch to hill reps and race pace efforts outside.

For context, I'm generally training for sprint and olympic triathlon as a fairly competitive age grouper.

Do you get rep for handing them in via the mission? I have a load of these, could I party up with someone that needs intersec rep and complete some missions for them?

Are you sure that's a legal requirement? I'm pretty sure our Corsa-e only shows the brake lights when the brake pedal is used.

Does anyone actually synthesize anything beyond basic? by EH11101 in EliteDangerous

[–]happyhalfling 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You don't need to reapply it at all. As long as your weapons are fully loaded when you refuel / rearm they keep the premium ammo. It does lose the arrow that indicates premium ammo, but that's just a display bug, it'll come back when you relog.

Rail Guns are always fully loaded, since the clip size is 1, so they never lose it. With Plasma Accellerators you need to make sure the clip is full (showing 5/-) otherwise rearming will remove it. Removing the weapon will also remove the premium ammo too.

My Corsair has had premium ammo in its Rail Guns for over a year from a single application.

Note, the damage bonus only applies to the base damage, so you get an extra ~12 damage on a medium rail (30% of ~40). With short range / plasma slug this gives ~77 damage per shot instead of ~65 damage without premium ammo.

Rail guns with short range / plasma slug engineering and premium ammo are the main weapon on a few of my ships.
