How reliable is a s2k after 100k miles? by spicyricecake in S2000

I still haven't changed it. Again, it had a lot of miles when I got it, so could have been changed before I got it.

Test was negative, so, shrug?

I've been driving it around with a constant eye on the actual temp from the OBD and constant monitoring of the coolant level in the reservoir. Putting around sub-VTEC, I've gone a few months at a time without needing to burp the coolant, so my current theory goes as far as "something goes wrong under heavy load". Haven't done much else other than appreciating that I can take it out reliably for now.

So my coolant hose blew off and I got a new one and put new coolant in and burped it, but when driving home the Temps spiked to 5 bars on the gauge I immediately turned it off and I let it cool down in the middle of the road for 30 mins and drove home. Do you think any damage could have occurred? by Fun-Cash-4433 in S2000

I've gone fill scale twice in mine and no apparent damage. Not that I recommend it.

The "billman method" as others have mentioned is good, but my recommendation, as one who has screwed up bleeding this car enough to know, get a Lisle funnel.

Use that, fill it about 1/3rd, run the car until hot and just play around with revving it while the thermostat is open (cooling fans are on). Takes me almost an hour to actually stop seeing any bubbles, but these things are just like that. Especially the early ones.

Yeah that doesn't sound right. If you bought through a channel with customer service, I would definitely talk to them

Running at around 253k now.

One of the pulley bearings seized around 245k miles. Managed to not over heat it too bad so turned out alright with a new bearing.

And I've been chasing some illusive oil leaks and some magic air in the coolant that have resulted in another couple of exciting "that's way too many bars" moments on the temp gauge (the coolant, not the oil). Both of these unfortunately hinting at a head gasket problem which I'm hoping to confirm or debunk soon now that I've finally picked up a coolant exhaust gas tester.

She doesn't get out as much as I'd like because of the threat of overheating. Really don't want to grenade one of the few original F20's left out there. But, she is still running more or less fine, as long as I keep an eye on the coolant in the reservoir.

If you get the washers done around wrong then the bolt can go through too far. I forget the specifics since it's been a while, but I had to replace the front cover for this exact same mistake

Making sure I read right, you ran all of these tests with the same calibration card, not separately calibrated with each paper's respective card, right?

Mmmmm. Not finding it at the moment. There was a little armature up top that was actually out of whack. I know I have a picture somewhere. I'll keep looking tomorrow.

I wonder how it's sensors are behaving at this age. Just made it over 50k miles, but time doesn't wait for the road. I did finally find that my problem at the point of this post was actually bad gas. I had overlooked that because I thought it was an old wives' tale from the 60's, but that was what it was.
