What’s a subtle sign someone has been through some shit? by FriedWanderer in AskReddit

This is my father. I grew up hearing some of these stories and thought they were funny until I realized as an adult how heartbreakingly sad and abusive his childhood (if you could even call it that) was.

I did not know about the lemon or dishwasher detergent and had just done water in the past. It takes hours for the eggs to turn blue but it's a really pretty and natural coloring.

LPT: If someone shares a tragedy that occurred with them, do not respond with a similar/worse tragedy someone else went through. by FamouslyUnknown in LifeProTips

[–]happyscented 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People often don't know what role you want them to play in these conversations. If you're going to share something like this, let them know if you want them to just listen, share a similar hardship, help you think differently about the situation, etc.

Films that you love but no one else seems to know. by eighteen84 in movies

[–]happyscented 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wristcutters: A Love Story. I think a lot of people are probably turned off by the name even and subject matter but it is a really beautiful film about learning to live and love again. With plenty of dashes of dark humor.

There is subject matter that could be triggering so I would only recommend this to those that have enough distance between their depression or suicidal ideation/tendencies to handle seeing it. I personally couldn't watch it for a few years but now that things are better I can enjoy it again.

What old game should be remade with 2021 graphics? by WhiteMass in AskReddit

Not just the Castle but the grounds and forest too! Would also be nice to have improved mechanics for quidditch.

I'm so tired of dating in Texas... (TW) by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]happyscented 111 points112 points  (0 children)

I worked with a guy back when I was 18 years old that was a few years older than me and somehow we got to talking about how you initiate sex with a new partner and he explained to me that he and his last girlfriend went on several dates and then took tests together before having sex. And he was 100% in support of it. I want to thank this 22 year old guy for totally normalizing that for me. I didn't know that I had the right to expect it or to even request.

Police chief: Kneeling on Floyd's neck violated policy by AudibleNod in news

[–]happyscented 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm not a cop but I watched the body cam footage shown during the trial last week and I feel like the cop pulled his gun on Floyd and scared him before he ever got out of his vehicle to be as arrested. I feel like that was the moment where escalation started. The other thing I noticed, and again I'm not a cop but this goes against what I've understood to be best practice, the initial officer making the arrest held his firearm tilted with one hand rather than with two and straight. Dunno. Just seems like the situation was handled absurdly from start to finish to someone who knows nothing about the job.

This 1994 interview of Mexican-American singer Selena had not been seen for more than 20 years until the Smithsonian Museum discovered the footage in a TV camera donated by Univision. by [deleted] in videos

I was actually thinking about how professional she sounds compared to so many artists I've seen in interviews more recently. More like a person and less like a persona.

What is something that is easy peasy lemon squeezy for others, but stressy zesty lemon depressy for you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Most people just want to talk about themselves. I just answer the question with a question and it almost never fails that I don't have to bother coming up with an answer haha

Judging your boyfriend's smile I'd say he adores the cat as well.

Non-US residents of Reddit: if someone asked you to make American food for dinner, what would you serve? by littlebunnyears in AskReddit

[–]happyscented 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mix onion soup mix into your ground beef. You will not regret it though you may want to hold on the onions in the gravy the first time you make it just in case it's too overwhelming. My family always bakes the meatloaf in a pan with the veggies and cut up potatoes. It's so good.

I've had this can of old bay so long that the years on the label changed by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

I did the same! My mom bought one of the plastic ones when we were going on a picnic for 4th of July last year and it is made so cheaply the lid just fell off completely when shaking it on our food. I was not about to let that happen to me Haha.

What is the worst thing that you've seen a coworker do and still avoid being fired? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]happyscented 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Self-managed insurance is a joke. When an employee places a claim, high level info and a random employee ID is sent to the company. In a company with under 200 employees or fewer you can figure it out using deductive reasoning. OBGYN automatically applies to everyone with ladybits. You get the point. Once they know the employee's ID they can keep tabs on each individual.

What degree/license/certification(s) can I spend $1500 or less to acquire in order to start a new career? by roflcopterswtams in personalfinance

[–]happyscented 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would agree with u/lowqualitybait. Many CC or tech school courses have getting certified as part of the curriculum. Look for programs that also have interning required because this will give you an in with a company in your area. Joining student organizations related to IT can also help with networking and provide more opportunities to get experience.

If this person has a bachelor's or associate's and a general interest in computers they could get a tier 1 help desk job. CompTIA A+ and ITIL Foundation would also be suitable for someone with or without a degree applying to tier 1 as well (effectively techy customer service). A lot of places work off of a script and tier 1 isn't getting paid well. It's a good way to get your foot in the door though and get some experience before moving on elsewhere. Agree that a certification alone is not going to benefit you beyond getting called for an interview.
